HomeMy WebLinkAbout04-15-1933384 - Minutes of a special meeting of the Common Council of the City of Rochester, Minnesota, held in the Council Chambers, in the City Hall, in said City, at 5:00 o'clock P.M., on April 15th,1933. Meeting called to order by President, Liddle. Roll Call. Present: Liddle, Amundsen, Dallman, nicks, Moody, Norton. Absent: Miller.. R The call for the special meeting was read; said meeting being called for the purpose of adoption of wage scale as provided for by ordinance No.4151 of said City, and any other business that the said Common Council might deem proper. Alderman Moody introduced the following resolution, which was read: . "WHERFAS, Section 7 of Ordinance No.415 provides that the Common Council of the City of Rochester, on the first Monday in April in each year, shall establish a minimum wage scale.for all public works for the ensuing official year; THEREFORE, Be it resolved by the Common Council of the City of Rochester, Minnesota: That for and during the official year following the passage and adoption of this resolution all contracts hereinafter entered into for the purpose of performing any work for the City of Rochester, involving; either new construction work or repair work on any roads, bridges, sewers, str'e�ets, alleys, parks, parkways, buildings,, or any other public work involving the improvement of. public property, shall be. mc,de upon the basis that the wages paid to skilled and unskilled labor shall not be less than the following: Bricklayer Bricklayer Foreman Bricklayer mixer Carpenter Carpenter Foreman Cement Finisher Cement Finisher foreman Electrician - Gas Shovel Engineer Hoisting Engineer Iron worker (erecting) Iron worker (reinforcement) Iron worker foreman Lather Marble setter Mixer Engineer Painter Painter foreman Plasterer Plasterer foreman Plasterer's tender Plumber Plumber's helper Roller engineer Roofer* Roofer foreman Roofer's helper Sheet metal worker Sheet metal worker's helper Steamfitter Steamfitter's helper Steam shovel engineer Stone Mason 2errazza Wo rk er Track Driver 1.00 1.10 .55 .75 .85 .63 .72 .75 .85 .65 1.00 . 50 .80 .70 1.00 .65 o75 .85 1.00 1.10 .55 .80 .50 50 .55 .75 .50 .75 .45 .600 050 080 1100 e80 45 385 UN WILL ED L ABO R Common Laborer in Parks work .45 Building, common & const. laborer .45 Subr-Foreman .60 Teamsters, with teams .81 " Upon motion by Hicks, second by Moody, that the said resolution be adopted as read, and all voting in favor thereof, President Liddle declared the said resolution duly passed and adopted. Upon motion by Hicks, second by Norton, Joseph J. Schuster was appointed Assistant Custodian of the City Hall for the ensuing official year, par to the ordinance amendment recently adopted providing for that office. President Liddle referred the matter of the attendants at Standard Oil Company filling station,at - Second Avenue Southeast and Fourth Street Southeast, washing automobiles and allowing the water to run onto Second Avenue Southeast, to the City Attorney and the Chief of Police, and referred the matter of overflow water from a swimming pool or fish pond on the Braasch property on Third Street Southwest and Ninth Avenue Southwest to the same committee for their c ons iderat ion. Purchase of fill from G. Schwartz & Company excavation at the new Post Office site to be used for the widening of Fourth Street Southeast between Fourth Avenue and Sixth Avenue was discussed and upon motion by Norton, second by Hicks, it was ordered that G. Schwartz & Company be offered $.06 per cubic yard for such surplus as they may have, that is that which cannot be sold elsewhere for a better price. Upon motion by Norton, second by Hicks, the Common Council adjourned.
