HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 119-19 - Mayor Community Event Fund RESOLUTION WHEREAS, the Mayor of the City of Rochester is regularly asked to attend business meetings, fundraisers, and other events for non-profits, service clubs and other community organizations; and WHEREAS, the City Council finds that there is a public benefit by having the Mayor or a representative of the Mayor attend such events; and WHEREAS, the City Council finds that the City should not be contributing funds to support community organizations based on rulings from the Attorney General and State Auditor. However, the City Council does find that the Mayor or designee should cover the cost of any meal associated with the event. WHEREAS, the City Council finds that the Mayor should have a budget in place to cover the cost of the meal at such events; and WHEREAS, the City Council finds that the private donation offered to cover these costs is very much appreciated but respectfully declines the donation. This is a policy decision and the Council wants to stress they appreciate the gesture and have the upmost respect toward the donor. The Council finds this is a cost that should be budgeted. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of Rochester, Minnesota, that the Council authorizes up to $2,400 be used from the 2019 budget appropriated by former mayor Brede or if necessary, the contingency fund, for the Mayor or designee to pay for meals while attending events of community organizations.
