HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 131-19 - Airport Bonding Support RESOLUTION WHEREAS, the process of submitting requests for State of Minnesota Capital Bonding Funds requires communities to provide a resolution from the governing body of the applicant; and, WHEREAS, Runway 2/20 has reached the end of it useful life and reconstruction and an extension is necessary to remain a secondary runway for ongoing operations at the Rochester International Airport (RST); and WHEREAS, the reconstruction and extension of the runway ensures uninterrupted operations during reconstruction of the intersection of Runway 2/20 and Runway 13/31; and WHEREAS, instrument approach improvements to Runways 2/20 and 3/31 will provide better access in poor weather/low visibility conditions. RST experiences Instrument Flight Rules conditions 24% of the time, significantly higher than the national average of 10%; and WHEREAS, instrument approach improvements will provide uninterrupted airport access to air ambulances and life flight operations; air cargo carries containing medical specimens and supplies; commercial air carriers and patient travelers; private aviation serving world, corporate and religious leaders; and diversion aircraft from MSP and statewide aviation system. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Rochester hereby states its strong support for the 2020 Capital Bonding request for the runway safety improvements at the Rochester International Airport as the City’s number one bonding priority for 2020.
