May was Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. Of the 1565 hours performed on the 6th Street Bridget Concept project, 458 (29%) have been performed by people of Asian heritage. 203.5 hours were performed by Landscape Architect Ling Gao (Chinese) the Principal in Charge John Slack (Japanese-American) with Perkins and Will, Inc. based in Minneapolis, Minn. Two women of Indian heritage, Savita Katarya and Kylie Bartz, with Diversity Council in Rochester, performed a combined total of 88.5 hours on this project. Asian Pacific Islander Participation on 6th Street Bridge Project Discovery Walk Workforce Pember Companies (893.75 hours), Premier Electric (106 hours), Missy's Trucking (17.25 hours) and Warning Lites (12.5 hours) got off to a great start this spring reporting more than 1,000 hours combined through the end of April 2022. 17 women hours (1.7%) and 12 hours (1.2%) have been performed by people of color. Bush Companies and Minnesota Minority Trades Council Rochester Area Chamber of Commerce Ribbon Cuttings Ceremony Locally-owned and operated by Kenneth Bush, Bush Companies and Minnesota Minority Trades Council moved into a new location at 4115 26th Street NW, Rochester, Minn. Ambassadors with the Rochester Area Chamber of Commerce hosted their ribbon cutting ceremonies on May 3, 2022. Bush companies has joined Laborers Local 405 in Rochester and has hired four members. The company has an active contract with MnDOT on the Hwy 61 resurfacing project. . to recruit and retain women and people of color until goals are acheived. To support women entrepreneurs and encourage them to develop their businesses in downtown Rochester, Destination Medical Center is sponsoring the remainder of Women Entrepreneurs (WE) Forum 2022 events. WE Forum was started three years ago by Dr. Christine Beech, faculty member of the business department of Saint Mary's University, and Heather Holmes, formerly with Rochester Area Economic Development Inc. (RAEDI). The first WE Forum DMC sponsored event was April 28, 2022 at 8 a.m. at St Mary's University Cascade Meadows campus. The featured panelists represented women in Arts and Entrepreneurism. Dr. Beech moderated the panel with widely recognized musician Annie Mack, Fagan Studios co-owner and photographer and the new Cafe Aqui co-owner Michelle Fagan, and arts Threshold Arts Executive Director Naura Anderson. Each of the panelists shared their own struggles and successes of being a woman in the arts and asking their worth for their work. On May 19th, a WE Forum lunch workshop teaching participants how to write and elevator speech was led by Amanda Leightner, Interim Executive Director of Collider and Tawonda Burks, owner of Elocina. An elevator pitch is a brief (20-30 seconds) persuasive speech that you use to spark interest in a project, product or service. It should be interesting, memorable and tell the listener what is unique about your service. WE Forum events are free to attend.
