RESOLUTION
Authorizing the Continued Use by the New Sports Mentorship Academy of
Lockers Previously Purchased with CARES Act Funding.
WHEREAS, the City of Rochester received funding through the CARES Act to support
people experiencing homelessness; and
WHEREAS, the CARES Act funding was used to purchase furniture and equipment to
support a day center for people experiencing homelessness; and
WHEREAS, Council Resolution No. 114-22 passed on May 16, 2022, authorized
continuous use of the Day Center equipment when The Landing MN moved to their new
location; and
WHEREAS, The Landing MN is no longer in need of the lockers purchased through the
CARES Act Funding; and
WHEREAS, the newly formed Sports Mentorship Academy is a mentoring program for
male students with untapped potential designed to prevent delinquency and academic
failure; and
WHEREAS, the financial implications of this continued use are minimal to the City of
Rochester and the benefits to the Sports Mentorship Academy are profound; and
WHEREAS, this continued use will help us to further affirm our connection and
commitment to support youth in the City of Rochester; and
WHEREAS, this continued use will continue until the end of the useful life of the
equipment or until the Sports Mentorship Academy no longer exists or no longer needs
the equipment.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by The City Council of The City of Rochester,
MN, that the continued use of the lockers by the Sports Mentorship Academy is
authorized.
