HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 161-24 - Resolution - Crime Victim Services Grant RESOLUTION Authorizing a Crime Victim Services Grant with the Minnesota Department of Public Safety Office of Justice Programs. WHEREAS, the Rochester City Attorney’s Office (CAO) has entered into previous grant agreements with the Minnesota Department of Public Safety Office of Justice Programs since 2017; and WHEREAS, the City of Rochester, MN is a Home Rule Charter City and the Mayor of said City is authorized by Charter Sec. 4.01 Subd. 2. as the official signatory authority, attested by the City Clerk, for all City contracts and agreements; and WHEREAS, this grant has allowed the CAO to hire an additional victim witness coordinator and to provide additional assistance to victims of crimes that are prosecuted by the CAO; and WHEREAS, the CAO relies on the victim grant to fund an additional victim witness coordinator position and to provide the direct client assistance our victims of crime deserve. WHEREAS, the Office of Justice Programs has sufficient funding to extend the CAO Crime Services Grant for FY25 ($70,000) at the FY24 funding levels ($70,000). WHEREAS, the CAO is eligible to receive an additional one-time 14.5% increase ($10,154) to the FY25 award as a result of the Minnesota State Legislature appropriating additional funding for current crime victim services grantees. WHEREAS, the CAO, a local unit of government, will be required to execute all amendments and return the executed to the Minnesota Department of Public Safety Office of Justice Programs by September 16, 2024, for grant period starting October 1, 2024 – September 30, 2025. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of Rochester that the Minnesota Department of Public Safety Prosecutorial Crime Victims Services grant for FY25 in the amount of $150,154 is accepted, along with authorization of the corresponding agreements, to assist the City of Rochester City Attorney’s Office in providing assistance to crime victims.
