Agency, $30.00 and The Rochester Visitor, $8.00.
From the Park Improvement Fund: First National Bank, $77.10;
An Ordinance creating and establishing -the "Rochester Music Board", providing for the
appointment of members of said Board and prescribing the powers and duties of said Board, was given
its first reading.
Upon motion by Haas, second by Morris, and upon roll call and all voting in favor thereof,
the rules were suspended and the ordinance was given its second reading.
Upon -motion by Haas, second by Wilkus, and upon roll call and all voting in favor thereof,
the rules were suspended and the ordinance was given its third and final reading.
A motion was then made by Alderman Haas that the said ordinance be adopted as read.
Alderman Wilkus seconded the -motion and all voting in favor thereof, President pro tem declared the
said ordinance duly passed and adopted.
An Ordinance annexing to the City of Rochester, Minnesota, a part of the Southeast One -
Quarter of Section Twenty -Two, Township One Hundred Seven North, Range Fourteen West, in Olmsted
County, Minnesota, was given its first reading.
A resolution authorizing the Mayor and City Clerk to execute on behalf of the City a
contract between the City and the Church of -St. Francis of Assissi relative to the construction
of a parish house over a City Sewer Easement and Sanitary Sewer, was read. Upon motion by Hanlon,
second by Haas, resolution adopted.
Mayor Smekta stated that -the matter of street names in the City of Rochester had been
called to his attention. He stated -that he felt the present -system of numbers being used was the
best and stated that he had received complaints that people were having trouble finding addresses
where the streets are named such as Pahama Court, Damon Court, etc. C. A. Armstrong, City
Engineer and Tom Moore, Planning Director, each.stated that they had been using the "grid"
pattern as much as possible but in some of the plats it -was impossible to have the numbers of
streets run -continuously, especially in some of the new plats where the streets curve and wind.
Alderman Tingley, Chairman of the Public Works Committee, stated that the said committee
were having some difficulty on the assessments in the new areas, as to what % should be charged
to these different areas and what percent should -be paid by the developers in these outlying
districts. He stated that they were thinking of -getting a committee of advisors, possibly to
consist of a banker, realtor and a business man -and wondered what the Council's thinking was -on this.
Mayor Smekta stated that he thought this was a very good idea and thought it should be tried.
Upon motion by Morris, second by Wilkdis,•the meeting was adjourned until 7:30 P. M.
