Minutes of an adjourned regular meeting of the Common Council of the City of Rochester,
Minnesota held in the Council Chambers in the City Hall, on March 15, 1961,
President Tingley called the meeting to order at 3:00 o'clock P. M., the following members
being present: President Tingley, Aldermen Gifford, Morris, Stadler and Wilson. Absent: Aldermen
Brooks and Wilkus.

.The Council then proceeded to the polling places in the various precincts of the City to
inspect the register counters of the voting machines and to compare the number,of votes shown by
such voting machines with the returns submitted by the Judges at the City Charter Election held
March 14th, 1961.

After making the canvass of the voting machines the Council members returned to the City
Hall at 5:00 o'clock P. M. President Tingley called the meeting to order, the following members
being present. President Tingley, Aldermen Brooks, Morris, Stadler and Aldermen Gifford and
Wilson. Absent: Alderman Wilkus.

Alderman Gifford then introduced the following resolution canvassing returns for -the City

Charter Election held March 14th, 1961:

"Be it resolved by.the Common Council..of the City of Rochester, Minnesota:
That -,the attached sheet is a tabulated statement and list of the number of votes case
for each person at -the Charter Election held March 14th, 1961 in the City of Rochester, Minnesota
as determined by said'Common Council on the canvass of the said returns of said election made the
15th day of March, 1961, the said statement is hereby declared to show the result of said election.
Said tabulated list and statement is attached.
SO THEREFORE, Be it resolved by the Common Council of the City of Rochester, Minnesota:
That -,Alex P. Smekta is hereby dec cared to be elected to the office of Mayor of the City
of Rochester, at the Charter Election held March 14th, 1961, to hold office for two years and until
his successor is elected and qualified; I
That Archie M. Ackerman is hereby declared to be elected to the office of the City Treasur-
er of the City of -Rochester, at the.Charter Election held March�14th, 1961, to hold office for one
year and until his successor is elected and qualified;
That Marvin W. Price is hereby declared to be elected to the office of City Assessor of the
City of Rochester, at the Charter Election held March 14th, 1961, to hold office for two years and
until his successor is elected and qualified;
That L. G. Schroeder is.hereby declared to be elected to the office of Justice of the, -Peace
styled "City Justice" of the City of Rochester, at the Charter Election held March 14th, 1961, to

That Harbld DeVries is hereby declared to be elected to the office of Alderman of the First

Ward of the City of Rochester, at the Charter Election held March 14th, 1961, to hold office for
two years and until his successor is elected and qualified;
That James R. Wilson is hereby declared to be elected to the office of Alderman of the Third
Ward of the City of Rochester, at the Charter Election held March 14th, 1961, to hold office for two
years and until his successor is elected and qualified;

That Stanley M. "Sparky" Morris is hereby declared to be elected to the offuce of Alderman of

the Fifth Ward of the City of Rochester, at the Charter.Election held March 14th, 1961, to hold office

for two years and until his successor if elected and qualified.

A motion was then made by Alderman Stadler, second by Alderman Gifford, that the said
resolution be `adopted as read, `and all present voting in `favor thereof, President' Tingley declared
the said resolution duly passed and adopted.
The following claims were each read and upon motion by Morris, second by Gifford, the same
were approved and the Mayor and City Clerk were authorized and directed to draw warrants upon the
City Treasurer and make payments accordingly:
