Minutes of ,a special meeting of the Common Council of the City of Rochester,
Minnesota, held in the Council Chambers in the City Hall in said City, on October 7, 1964. o
President DeVries called the meeting to order at 7:15 o'clock P. M. the
following members being present: President DeVries, Aldermen Day, Eichten, Hanlon, McCaleb,
Perry. Absent: Alderman Wilson.
The call of the special meeting was read and President DeVries ordered the same
placed on file, the said meeting having been called for the purpose of considering installation
of sewer and water facilities -for United Building.Centers, Inc._at Highway 14 in Northwest
Rochester and any other business the said Common Council may deem proper.
The following.letter from United Building Centers, Inc. was read:

Rochester, Minnesota
Gentlemen:
Pending City Council approval, it is the intention of United Building
Centers to drill a well eight by four downto the root valley formation
at the new building side on Highway 14 West, the well to be cased and grouted r.
following Minnesota Department of Health recommendations.
The proposed well will be used for drinking and sanitary facilities,. No
industrial use is anticipated and the water can be easily supplied.by the
installation of a ten-gallon per minute pump.
We respectfully request approval of a permit to proceed with the
foregoing installation. Thank you for your consideration.

Alderman Day introduced a resolution granting.a permit to construct in accord -
a
ance with regulations and specifications of the Minnesota Department of Health one well of
adequate depth and capacity to provide safe water for drinking and other purposes, which was
read. A motion was made by Eichten, second by McCaleb, that the said resolution be adopted as
read and all voting in favor thereof, President DeVries declared the said resolution duly
passed and adopted.
Mr. Glenn Marek, Supt.. of Water Department, was present. He stated that he
felt the Council and Water Department should use every means of supplying municipal water
instead of using private wells; he said this could get to be a probelm if too many we&ls were
dug in the City or in the fringe area.
Upon motion by Day, second by Hanlon, and all present voting in favor thereof,
the meeting was adjourned.
