HomeMy WebLinkAbout02-28-196861SQ Record of Official Proceedings of the Common Council of the City of Rochester, Minn., February 28, 1968 Minutes of an adjourned regular meeting of the Common Council of the City of Rochester, Minnesota, held in the Council Chambers in the City Hall, in said City, on February 28, 1968: The meeting was called to order at 3:30 P. M. with the following members being present: Aldermen Ellison,.Folkert, Larson and Perry. The Council members then proceeded to the polling places of the various voting precincts of the City, to inspect the register counters of the voting machines and to compare the number of votes shown by such voting machines with the returns submitted by the Judges at the City Primary Election held on February 27, 1968. After making the canvass of the votes the Countil returned to the City Hall at 4:30 P. M. President DeVries called the meeting to order with the following members being present: President DeVries, Aldermen Ellison, Folkert, Larson, Perry. Absent: Aldermen Day and Postier. Alderman Larson introduced the following resolution which was read: Be it resolved by the Common Council of the City of Rochester, Minnesota? That the following is a tabulated statement of the number of votes cast for each person at the Primary Election held on the 27th day of February, A.D. 1968, in the City of Rochester, as determined by.said Common Council on the canvass of the votes of the said Primary Election made this 28th day of February, 1968 and that the said tabulated .statement is hereby declared to show the results of the said Primary Election: office 1st Ward 2nd Ward 3rd Ward 4th Ward 5th Ward 6th Ward and Prec. Brooks and Harold J. "Dutch" DeVries are hereby declared to be candidates for the office of Alderman at Large of the City of Rochester, Minnesota, at the Charter Election to be held March 12th, 1968. That the City Clerk of said City is hereby instructed to.cause the names of the said persons to be printed as candidates for the respective offices upon the official ballots of the coming Charter Election to be held March 12th, 1968." A motion was made by.Larson, second by Folkert, that the said resolution be adopted as read, and all present voting in favor, President DeVries declared the said resolution dully passed and adopted. A copy of a letter signed by Willard H. Knapp and addressed to Mr. Douglas Head, Attorney General of the State of Minnesota, regarding what he thought were improper election practices on the Primary Election Day was presented and upon motion by Larson, second by Folkert, and all present voting in favor, the letter was ordered placed on file.
