Minutes of a special meeting of the Common Council of the City of
Rochester, Minnesota, held in the Council Chambers in the City Hall, in said City, on
July 18, 1969.
President DeVries called the meeting to order at 11:45 A. M., the
following being present: President DeVries, Aldermen Cherland, Folkert, Larson, Ludowese,
Postier, Strain. Absent: None.
The call of the special meeting was read and President DeVries ordered
the same placed on file, the said meeting having been called for the purpose of considering
officially closing part of Monday, July 21, 1969 and any other business the said Common
Council may deem proper.
President DeVries stated that the President of the United States has
called for official closing of all Federal offices in recognition of the Apollo 11 Lunar
Mission; he 'said the Governor of Minnesota called for approval of State Employees arriving
at work two hours late on Monday morning and thought the Council should consider some
action.
A resolution that in recognition of the Apollo 11 Lunar Mission the
municipal offices of the City of Rochester other than the Municipal Court, Public Utility
Plants, Sewage Treatment Plant and Fire and Police Departments, shall be closed July 21,
1969 until 12:00 noon; that for administrative purposes the time off shall be treated in
the same manner as a holiday and employees who are required to be on duty before 12:00 noon
on Monday, July 21, 1969 shall be given compensatory time off equal to one=half day at such
other time as may be approved by their supervisors, was read. A motion was made by Postier,
second by Folkert, that the said resolution be adopted as read and all voting in favor,
President DeVries declared the said resolution dulyzpassed and adopted.
•Upon motion by Ludowese, second by Folkert, and all voting in favor, the
meeting was adjourned until 7:30 o'clock P. M. on July 21, 1969. -
