HomeMy WebLinkAbout07-28-1969Record of .Official Proceedings of the Common Council 327 of the City of Rochester, Minn., July 98, 1969 CJ I I FA Minutes of a special meeting of the Common Council of the City of Rochester, Minnesota, held in the Council Chambers in the City Hall, in said City, on July 28, 1969. President DeVries called the meeting to order at 11:30 A.M., the following being present: President DeVries, Aldermen Cherland, Folkert, Larson, Ludowese, Postier, Strain. Absent: None. The.call of the special meeting was read and President DeVries ordered the same placed on file, the said meeting having been called for7tthe purpose of considering the resolution adopted by the Public Utility Board regarding painting of Southwest Water Tower (Apache Mall), and any other business the said Common Council may deem proper,. A resolution approving a resolution passed and adopted by the Public Utility Board re. change order in the amount of $975.00 to cover costs of changing the color for painting the Water Tower for the Southwest Area (Apache Water Tower) from standard aluminum paint to Mist Blue Aluminum: The said cost of water tower, including the cost of changing the color, would be assessed to 400.acres lying west and south of Highway No. 52. At the time Apache Corporation was given its permit it was also assured an ample water supply. The Public Works Committee considered four sites and it was their recommendation that it be near the interchange. Alderman Folkert of the Second Ward had been approached by persons whose front windows face directly to the tower now on the site of Apache Mall. They asked that it be painted a color to blend in with the atmosphere. The Apache Corporation who is now on the site, and George Bailey who owns the remainder of the property, both favored the light blue color. The question of setting a precedent on future maintenance of other water towers in the City, along. with additional cost of maintenance of this was raised. Upon motion by Folkert, second by Larson, roll call was asked. Aldermen Cherland, Postier, Strain voted "nay", Folkert, Larson and Ludowese voted "aye", making a tie vote, President DeVries voted "nay", and the motion to allow a different color paint than specified in the contract was denied. A proposed ordinance for the purpose of establishing a Common Day of.Rest for the City of Rochester was introduced. Upon motion by Ludowese, second by Cherland, and all present voting in favor thereof, it was referred to the Public Safety Committee for consideration. A letter from Alderman Strain proposing development of the park area on Lake Zumbro (across from power dam) into a camping site. Upon motion by Strain, second by Cherland, and all present voting in favor thereof, it was referred to the Public Safety Committee and the Park Department for recommendation. Upon motion by.Cherland, second by Postier, and all present voting in favor thereof, the meeting was adjourned. Deputy City Clerk
