Minutes of an adjourned regular meeting of the Common Council of the City of Rochester, Minnesota,.. held on June 26th,1940, in the Council Chambers, in the City Hall., in said City. President Lemmon called the meeting to order at 7:30 o'clock P.M., the following persons -being present: Lemmon, Amundsen, Anderson, Bowers, Moody, jMrachek, Williams. Absent: None. Upon -motion by Mrachek second by Anderson the minutes of•the Meeting of June 24th,1940, were approved. The application of Earl Stanton for a drivers license, was read and upon motion by Amundsen second by Bowers license was granted. The contract bond of H.T.Earl in the sum of $9,946.75 with the Standard Surety & Casualty Company of New York as surety, and the contract bond of the Hewitt Rubber Company in the sum of $152.50 with the American Surety Company as surety, were each read and upon motion by Williams second by Amundsen the said bonds were approved,the sureties 6hereo n accepted and it was ordered that the same be placed on file. The City Engineer submitted approximate estimate of cost for the resurfacing of Center Street -West from Seventh Avenue to Eleventh Avenue Northwest, said estimate of cost being $5,015.00. Alderman Moody introduced a resolution adopting the specifications and estimate of cost for the resurfacing of Center Street West, from Seventh Avenue to Eleventh Avenue Northwest and Southwest, and ordering bids to be received and opened at 7:30 o'clock P.M., on July Sth,1940, which was read. Upon motion by Williams second by Amundsen that the said resolution be adopted as read, and all voting in favor thereof, President Lemmon declared the said resolution duly passed and adopted. Alderman Williams introduced a resolution appropriating $2,472.45 from the Park Improvement Fund and ordering payment made to the Mayo Trust Fund, for payrolls for labor during the half month ending June 15th,1940, which was read. Upon motion by Williams second by Mrachek that t1he said resolution be adopted as read, and all voting in favor thereof, President Lemmon declared the said resolution. d9ly passed an-d adopted. Mr. Robert McDonnell, of Burns & McDonnell Engineering Company, was.wpre:&e:nt tc explain /the report of said Engineering Company on the operations of the Northern Natural Gas Company and the Peoples Gas Company in Rochester, and explained that the limited time allotted tothem for making this report, was not -sufficient to study and report on certain items.which he felt were quite important. Mr. McDonnell upon being questioned by'the members of the Council, explained certain points of this report more in detail and recommended to the Common Counci] that a more complete investigation would reveal information which would assist the Council in making a decision. He recommended that if possible the time for studying the, report be extended. Mayor Grassle presented the following communication, which was read: If PEOPLES NATURAL GAS COMPANY Rochester, Minnesota June 26, 1940 Hon.Paul A.Grassle,Mayo.r 200 City Hall Building Rochester, M.inne.sot.a Dear Sir: Confirming our conversktion of today,.if you and the members of the Council feel that you have not had sufficient time to study the Engineer's Report submitted to you last Monday, in connection with your deliberations on the advisability of taking over our Natural Gas system under the provisions of Ordinance #445,passed and adopted June 29,1932, Peoples Natural Gas Company will and does hereby agree that notice served upon the Company, .a8,provided--in.,said. ordinance, at any time on or before September 3, 1940, will be accepted with the same force and effect as though the same:had been served on the Oompany on or before June 30,1940.
