Minutes of an adjourned regular meeting of the Common Council of the City of
Rochester, Minnesota, held in the Council Chambers, in the City Hall, in said
City on November 22nd,la4o.
President Lemmon called the meeting to order at 4:00 o'clock 13.M., the
Ifollowing members being present: Lemmon, Amundsen, Anderson, Moody, Mrachek,
IWilliams. Absent: Bowers. Alderman Bowers being absent on account of the
illness of himself.
A communication from the Coca Cola Bottling Comua.ny,requesting permission
to construct a bottling plant on the corner of Sixth Street and First Avenue
Southwest, and asking that any -necessary changes in the Zoning ordinance to
Ipermit the same be made, was read, and upon motion by Moody second by Amundsen
the matter was referred to the Zoning Board.
A contract for the Christmas street lighting between the Peterson Electric
Company and the Chamber of Commerce and City of Rochester, was presented, and
upon motion by Mrachek second by Williams the said contract and the action
of the Street and Alley Committee were approved.
The matter of the improvement Bonds which are callable on December 1,1940,
was referred to the Finance Committee and the Sinking Fund Commission.
Alderman Amundsen introduced a resolution appropriating $579.47 from the
Gen6ral Fund and ordering payment made to George C.Peterson Company, for a
tank car of gasoline,-,'rLSWLX 262,ewhich was read.
Upon motion by Mrachek second by Moody that the said resolution be adooted
as read, and all voting in favor thereof, President Lemmon declared the said
resolution duly passed and adopted.
Alderman Mrachek introduced a resolution approving the 1940 tax levy
budget of School District No.S, in the aggregate sum of $379,995.00, which
was read.
Upon motion by Amundsen second by Anderson that the said -resolution be
adopted as read, and all voting in f avor thereof, President Lemmon declared the
said resolution duly massed and adopted.
Alderman 111rachek introduced a resolution levying taxes for the year 1940,
in the tota.l sum of $394, 704- 50, for the City of Rochester, which was read.
Upon motion by Williams second by Amundsen that the said resolution be
adopted as read and all voting in favor thereof, President Lemmon declared the
said resolution duly passed and adopted.
A motion by Williams second by Amundsen carried that the Council reconsiderl
the action taker_ previously in this meeting referring the request of the Coca
Cola Bottling Company to the Zoning Board, and Aldermen Moody and Amundsen

accordingly withdrew their motion and the second thereto, thereby rescinding
said former action.

Alderman Williams introduced an ordinance amending an ordinance for the
purpose of promoting health, safety, order, convenience and general welfare by
regulating the use of land, the location, size, use and height of buildings,
and the arrangement of building on lots and the density of population within the
City of Rochester, Minnesota, all in accordance with a comprehensive plan, which
was given its first reading.
Upon motion by Moody second by Williams, and upon roll cell all voting in
favor theremf, the rules were suspended and the said ordinance was given its
second reading.
Upon motion by Mrachek second by Anderson, and upon roll call -all voting
in favor thereof, the rules were suspended and the said ordinance was given its
third and final reading.
Upon motion by Williams.second by Mra.chek that the said ordinance be
adopted as read, and upon roll call all voting in favor thereof, President
Lemmon declared the said ordinance duly passed and adopted.
Copies of notices of claims for damages,signed by Mrs. R.C.Sermon and
R.C.Sermon, for injuries sustained by Airs. R.C.Sermon, were each read and
President Lemmon ordered that the same be placed on file.
Upon motion by Moody sec-ond by Williams the Common Council adjourned.
