Alderman Allen, Larson, Powers and Solinger. Absent: Aldermen Duffy and Strain. The meeting was held at the Rochester Public Library in the Auditoriui B-1 A Hearing on the Handicap Accessibility Program for Regular Route Transit for Rochester, Minnesota. President Postier introduced Tony Knauer, of the Traffic Department of the City of Rochester, Minnesota. Mr, Knauer presented the Federal Law on requirements that the City and the buses have to abide by when purchasing new buses in making them accessible for the handicapped. He stated that in 1992 all buses will be accessible. After July, 1979 all. buses that are purchased must.be accessible for the handicapped. By July, 1989 112 of our fleet will be accessible. He.also stated that the bus shelters that are now installed are accessible for the handi- capped. Mr. Knauer explained the route system and stated that the ZIPS service will continue. Wishing to be heard was Joyce Gashel Rochester, Minnesota and wanted the ZIPS to continue as is and not to bid it out. An interested citizen requested Saturday service from ZIPS. President Postier stated that the county regulates the ZIPS. Having no one else that wished to be heard, President Postier closed the hearing. Allen moved, Larson second to adopt Resolution No. 630-80 approving the Handicap Accessibility Program for Regular Route Transit in Rochester, Minnesota. Ayes (5), Nays (0). Motion carried., E-1 Solinger.moved, Powers second to authorize the City Clerk to advertis( for bids on the ZIPS Dial -A -Ride operation. Bids will be opened at 11:00 A.M. on November 26, 1980. Ayes (5), Nays (0). Motion carried. Having no further business, Solinger moved, Larson second to adjourn the meeting. Ayes (5), Nays (0). Motion carried. 1 1 er
