Minutes of a special meeting of the Common Council of the City of
Rochester, Minnesota, held in the Council Chambers, in the City Hall, in said
City on December 26, 1945.
President Lemmon called the meeting to order at 5:00 P.M., the follow-
ing members being present : President Lemmon, Aldermen Fryer, Kennedy, Kjerner,
McQuillan, Narveson and Yaeger.
The call of the special meeting was read and President Lemmon ordared
that the same be placed on file, said meeting having been called for the purpose
of making application to the United States Government to procure housing units
for temporary use during the shortage of housing in the City of Rochester and.
any other business the said Common Council may deem proper.
City Attorney, Desmond B. Hunt, explained that it might be possible
to procure temporary housing units from the United States Government and that
water and sanitary facilities would have to be furnished by the City on the
grounds where the units would be erected. He also stated that the project could
be sponsored by any organization, firm or individual.
Mr. G. S. Schuster, representing the Mayo Properties Association,

stated that the Mayo Properties Association would under one-half the units to be
II erected.
Mayor Grassle read a telegram from Congressman August H. Andresen in
rhich the procedure for making application'to the Government for the said housing
units was explained.
Alderman Yaeger introduced a resolution authorizing the Mayor to enter
into any agreement with the Federal Government or with any agency thereof to se' --
cure temporary housing units for the City and further authorizes Public Grounds
Committee, Public Health and Welfare Board, and the City Engineer to cooperate
with committees from the Chamber of Commerce and the Legion Posts of both World
War I and World War II in overcoming the housing problem in the City of Rochester
Upon motion by Fryer, seconded by McQuillan, that the said resolution be adopted
as read, all voting in favor .thereof, President Lemmon declared the said resolu-
tion duly passed and adopted.
Upon moti.on by Yaeger, seconded by Narveson, the meeting was adjourned.
