Councilmember Senjem called to the attention of the Council an urban housing
development off 55th Street N.W., adjacent to City limits and approximately one-
half mile from the Water Reclamation Plant. He noted that septic systems will be
installed rather than City sewer/water service. It was the consensus of the
Council that this matter be brought to the attention of the County Board prior to
their approval of the development to encourage hook-up to City sewer and water
facilities.
Mayor Canfield announced that the Fire Department will have volunteers going to
the Red River Valley area to assist in the flood cleanup operation. These
individuals will be taking a truck,, trailer and RV along with pumps to remove
water. They will also be relieving Grand Forks firefighters presently on duty to
allow those individuals to clean their own homes. The Rochester Aviation group
will then fly new volunteers up to the area and fly back those persons having to
return to their regular duties in Rochester. The cost for this effort will be
approximately $3000 for gasoline for taking the truck, trailer and RV and for the
airplane fuels.
Councilmembers agreed that the firefighters should be covered by Worker's
Compensation while pursuing volunteer efforts.
Councilmember Senjem moved, Hruska seconded, to adopt Resolution No. 226-
97 directing the Mayor and City Clerk to execute all documents necessary for
allowing Rochester Firefighters to volunteer in the flood relief efforts in the Red
