HomeMy WebLinkAbout02-24-1954Record of Official Proceedings of the Common Council of the City of Rochester, Minn., February 24, 1954 Minutes. of. an_ adjourned regular meeting of the Common Council of the City of Rochester, Minnesota, held in the Council Chambers, in the City Hall in said City, on February 24, 1954. President Bach called the meeting to order at 4:00 o'clock P. M., the following members being present: President Bach, Aldermen Ackerman, Anderson, Morris, Schroeder, Thiem and Whiting. Absent; None. President Bach then announced that the Council would proceed to canvass the counters of the voting machines in the Third Ward for the Primary Election held on February 23, 1954. Alderman Ackerman introduced the following resolution which was read "Be it resolved by the Common Council of the City of Rochester, Minnesota: That the following is a tabulated statement of the number of votes cast for each person at the Primary Election held on the 23rd day of February, A. D. 1954, in the City of Rochester, Minnesota, as determined by said Common Council on the canvass of the returns of the said Primary Election made this 24th day of February, 1954, and that the said tabulated statement is hereby declared to shohr the results of the said Primary Election. Moody and Emrold Thiem are hereby declared to be candidates for Alderman of the Third Ward of the City of Rochester, Minnesota, at the Charter'Election to be held March 9, 1954. The City Clerk of said City is hereby instructed to cause the names of the said persons to be printed as candidates for the respective office, upon the official ballots at the coming Charter Election to be held March 9, 1954.11 Upon motion by Morris, second by Anderson, that the said resolution be adopted as read, and all voting in favor thereof, President Bach declared the said resolution duly passed and adopted. The following resolutions were each introduced and read and President Bach declared the same duly passed and adopted: Resolution appropriating $3,015.95 from the General Fund and $45,846.14 from the Sewer Fund and ordering payment made to Big Four Oil Company, $2, 451, 25; Rochester Post Bulletin, $564.60 and Sinking Fund of the City of Rochester, $45,s46.14, Upon motion by Ackerman, second by Anderson, resolution adopted. Resolution appropriating $2,066.57 from the P.I.R. Fund and ordering payment made to C. M.. Boutelle, $279.97 and Conner & Winslow, $1,7a6.60. Upon motion by Anderson, second by Schroeder, resolution adopted. Upon motion by Schroeder, second by Thiem, resolution adopted. The following claims were each read and upon motion by Morris, second . The -matter of moving buildings from the City Farm and the Fairgrounds to the old Sewage Disposal Plant and to the Dumping Grounds ',was discussed by the Council and upon motion by Alderman Whiting, second by Alderman Ackerman, the ii City Engineer was authorized to move two buildings from the 'City Farm to the location of the old Sewage Disposal Plant and one quonset but from the fairgrounds to the same location and one quonset but from the fairgrounds to thedumping grounds. Upon motion by Morris, second'by Ackerman, the meeting was adjourned. City Clerk
