. Minutes of a special meeting of the Common Council of the City of
Rochester, Minnesota, held in the Council Chambers in the City Hall,, in said City,
on May 29, 1954.
President Bach called the meeting to order at 4:30 o'clock P. M., the
following members being present: President Bach, Aldermen Ackerman, Anderson,
Moody, Morris, Schroeder and Whiting. Absent: None.
The call of the special meeting was read and President Bach ordered
same placed on file, the said meeting having been called for the purpose of
considering the adoption of a resolution appointing one member of a Fact Finding
Commission to serve on a panel for each of the four following groups of City
Employees: Police Department, Fire Department, City Engineer's Department
(Engineering Staff), and departments represented by Max Durand, representative
of Local Union #997, namely employees in the City Engineer's maintenance
department, health department, park department and City Scales department, and
any other business the said Common Council may deem proper.
Alderman Ackerman introduced the following resolution which was read
and upon motion by Ackerman, second by Schroeder, that the said resolution
be adopted as read, and all voting in favor thereof, President Bach declared
the said resolution duly passed and adopted:
"WHEREAS, requests have been received by the Common
Council of the City of Rochester, Minnesota from the Police
and Fire Departments, Department of City Engineer (Engineer-
ing Staff) and City Departments represented by Local Union
Number 997, namely, employees in the City Engineer's
Maintenance Department, Health, Park and City Scales
Departments for the appointment of panels to attempt to adjust
through negotiation the employees' wage grievance, pursuant
to Sec. 179.51.0,ru 179.58 of the Minnesota Statutes,
SO THEREFORE, Be it resolved by the Common Council of the
City of Rochester, Minnesota, that the following named
members be appointed to serve on the panels as follows:
S. R. Davis Police Department Panel
J. A. Claydon Fire Department Paner
H. J. Briese Department of Engineer
(Engineering Staff) Panel
C. C. Pagenhart Departments of Park, Health,
City Scales and City .
Engineer's Maintenance Panel "
The applications -of Morey's Bar & Cafe, Inc. for "on sale" and "off
sale" non -intoxicating malt liquor licenses wer..e each read and upon motion by
Ackerman, second by Morris, and upon roll call and all voting in favor thereof
except Alderman Schroeder, who voted "no", the -licenses were granted.
Judge Eckholdt was present at the meeting and stated that he was in
need of more office space. He further stated that the room now occupied by the
Community Chest would be the most logical space for his purpose. Mr. Laton
Smith, of the Community Chest, was also present and the Council advised him and
Judge Eckholdt that they would take the matter under advisement.
Upon motion by Ackerman, second by Moody, the meeting was adjourned.
