HomeMy WebLinkAbout07-21-1955476 Record of Official Proceedings of the Common Council of the,City of Rochester, Minn., July 21, 1955 Minutes of an adjourned regular meeting of the Common Council of the City of Rochester, Minnesota, held in.the'Council Chambers in the City Hall, in said City, on July 21, 1955- A motion was made by Whiting, second by Moody, that Alderman Anderson be appointed as President pro tem. Vpon roll call all present voted in favor of the motion. President pro tem Anderson called the meeting to order at 5:30 o'clock P.M., the following members being present: Aldermen Anderson, Moody, Schwanke, Tingley and Whiting. Absent: President Bach and Alderman Schroeder. A letter from the Board of Park Commissioners requesting that additional funds be appropriated for dredging work at Silver Lake was read. Alderman Whiting moved that the Board of Park -Commissioners be authorized to expend an additional sum of $2,000,00 for the work.of dredging Silver Lake. Alderman Tingley seconded the motion and all present voted in favor thereof. The recommendation of the Water Committee that a water main be constr- ucted in the extension of 9th Street Southeast to a point 267 feet east of 9th Avenue Southeast was read and upon motion by Whiting, second by Schwanke, the recommendation was approved. The following recommendation was read and upon motion by Schwanke, second by Whiting, the recommendation was approved and the City Clerk was instructed to ntitify Mr. Golberg of the action taken by the Council: "Honorable Mayor & Common Council City of Rochester, Minnesota Gentlemen: We, the undersigned, have viewed the premises at 1427 East Center, where a sidewalk has been ordered by the City Council and objected to by Mr. Goldberg. We judge that sidewalk is needed and recommend that the existing order to construct a sidewalk on 15 Avenue Northeast on the east side of this property be carried out. Respectfully, s/s A. G. Whiting Albert J. Tingley Thomas A. Moody Leo C. Anderson" A resolution ordering the first hearing on construction of a water main in the extension of 9th Street Southeast to a point 267 feet east of 9th Avenue Southeast was introduced and read. A motion was made by Tingley, second by Schwanke, that the resolution be adopted as read and all present voting in favor thereof, President pro tem Anderson declared the said resolution duly passed and adopted. A resolution abandoning the street widening project on 6th Avenue Southwest between 2nd Street and 3rd Street Southwest was introduced and read. Upon motion by Whiting, second by Schwanke, the City Attorney was Instructed to draft a resolution abandoning the project of widening 4th Avenue Northwest 'on the west s'ide of same from let Street Northwest to 2nd Street North- west and to construct a curb and gutter on the west side of 4th Avenue Northwest at.the new location.' The matter of payment of claims in the amount of $1,655.90 for the construction of a band shell was brought up, as only the amount of $1,200,00 had been appropriated. A motion was made by Whiting, second by Tingley, that Alderm Schwanke and Moody be appointed to call to the attention of the Board of Park Commissioners that the appropriation for construction of the band shell was not t o exceed $1, 200.00 and find out why they were $1, 655.90. The matter of parking and,parking regulations on 6th Avenue Southwest between 2nd and 3rd Street was again discussed. A motion was then made by Alderman Whiting that the City Attorney be ine'tructed to draft a resolutkon amending the resolution establishing parking and parking meter regulations and provisions pursuant to Ordinance No. 971 to contain the following; On the east side of the street parking be prohibited from the South as -far North as the narrowest 'part of the •street and that on the west 'side of the street' parking be prohibited from 2nd Street south to the 30 foot portion and furthermore that the 40"foot portion of the street on both the east and west side be posted for 30 minute parking. Alderman Schwanke seconded the motion. Aldermen Schwanke,and Whiting and President pro tem Anderson voted in favor of themotion and Aldermen Tingley and Moody voting snos, so President pro tem Anderson declared the motion carried.
