HomeMy WebLinkAbout10-04-1955Record of Official Proceedings of the Common Council 549 �I of the City of Rochester, Minn., 0 c t o b e r 4, 19 5 5 1 • 1 • 1 Minutes of a meeting of the Common Council of the City of Rochester, Minnesota, held in the Council Chambers in the City Hall, in said City, on October 4, 1955• President Bach called the meeting to order at 7:30 o'clock P. M., the following members being present: President Bach, Aldermen Anderson, Moody, Schroeder, Schwanke, Tingley, and Whiting, Absent: None. President Bach stated that this meeting had been called primarily for the purpose of having a public hearing to consider the retention of angle parking on Broadway and the assessment to abutting property owners for the approximate sum of $10.00 per front foot, to pay the City's share. of the cost of this project. Mr. C. A. Armstrong, City Engineer again quoted the total cost of the proposed project I as $124,000.00; if angle parking were retained the City's share would be $74,OOO.OQ and if the City converted to parallel parking the City's share would be $12,000.00 Mr. Fred Schuster, a property owner on Broadway, was present and stated that he felt that $10.00 per front foot, as proposed, was too high and suggested that some of the money collected from.the 70 parking meters, that would be saved by retaining angle parking, be used toward this project. Mr. A. C. Gooding was also present and stated that he was very much in favor of keeping angle parking a would be .willing to pay a fair share of the .cost of the project. Mr. F. J. Paine was also present and stated that he was in favor of retaining angle parking and was, willing to pay a fair share of the assessment. Mr. Leo Herrick, Mr. E. A. Jensen, Mr. Harold Boutelle, Mr. Carlos Ellis,. Mr.. E. H. Gogld, Mr. Walter Fratzke, Mr. John Bach, Mr. Leo DeVilliers and Mr. George Pougiales were all present and stated that they were in favor of ret"ing angle parking but felt as if $10.00 per front foot was too high. A letter from the ,A. F. of L. Central Labor Union stating that they wanted to go on record as being against assessing adjoing property owners f.or cost of paving on Broadway was read and President Bach ordered the same placed on file. Upon motion by Schwanke, second by Whiting, the meeting was adjourned until 7:30 o'clock P. M, on October 10, 1955• De uty City Clerk. 0
