HomeMy WebLinkAbout03-29-1956Record of Official Proceedings of the Common Council of the City of Rochester, Minn., Mar ch 29, 19 56 6931 I • 1 11 0 Minutes of a meeting of the Common Council of the City of Rochester, Minnesota, held in the Council Chambers in the City Hall, in said City on March 29, 1956. President Bach called the meeting to order at 4: 45 P. M., the following members being present: President Bach, Aldermen Anderson, Moody, Schroeder, Schwanke, Tingley, Whiting. Absent: None. The applications of the Yellow Cab Company (27) and Vets Cab Company(S) for taxi' cab licenses were each read. Upon motion by Schroeder, second by Moody, the said licenses were granted. A letter from Public Utility Board stating that the request from the Rochester Dairy Cooperative to abandon a well be granted with the recommendation that the necessary work be done under the supervision of the City Health Department was read. Alderman Whiting moved that the City Clerk be instructed to notify the Rochester Dairy Coop. that their request for abandoning a well is granted and that this be done under the supervision of the Public Health Department and the Rochester Dairy Coop to novity the Health Department when they are ready to proceed with the work. Alderman Schroeder seconded the motion and all voted in favor thereof . The following letter from Tom 0. Moore was read and President Bach ordered the same placed on file: "Honorable Mayor &Common Council City of Rochester, Minnesota Gentlemen: I accept your appointment as City Planning Engineer at the salary of $5,600 per year and my expenses paid to attend a short course in City Planning as recommended by your special council committee. Since school expenses are being considered as part of my first year's salary, I would like the Common Council to consider this as a starting salary. I would also like to have tie under- standing that after I have completed the school course, we would again consider the salry of $6,000 per year for this position. Since City Planning is a community affair, I would like to thank those departments which have extended to me their cooperation. Respectfully, s Tom 0. Moore" Alderman Sehwanke moved that the request of the Board of Public Health &I Welfare to rent 351 sq. ft. of floor space at the Public Health Center to the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation be approved. Alderman Tingley seconded the motion and all voted in favor thereof. Alderman Whiting stated that he felt a committee should by appointed by chair to study the question of sick leave and compensation as affecting city employees and recommended that the City Attorney be included in said committee. President Bach stated that he would appoint such a committee at the next meeting. Upon motion by Anderson, second by Tingley, the meeting was adjourned.
