He also was instructed to enclose a copy of that,part of the. minutes showing the action of the Common Council. Alderman Schroeder se.condea the motion and upon roll call .all voted in favor thereof, except President Bach who voted "no'I". Alderman Whiting introduced a res.olu.tion authorizi-ng and permitting the use of the buildings on Lot 22, Block 15, Northern Addition as non -conforming usee ( owned by Dale Arbuckle) , which was read. A motion was - made by. Schleanke, second by Whiting, that the said resolution be adopted as+read and all, voting in favor thereof, President Bach declared the said resolution adopted as read. T.he requests of Yellow Cab Company and the Vets Cab Company- to have their franchises renewed wer-e again discussed at this 'time. Mr. Carl F. Petersen, owner of Vets Cab Company, was present and requested that he be given a franchise for 10 cabs and also requested equal use of public property, that is the use of any and all taxi stands at any time. Mr., Joe Kremer, Manager of Yellow Cab Co., was'also present and requested that their, franchise for 27 cabs be renewed and stated that he felt each cab line should have their own stands -and was opposed to equal rights to cab stands. After discussing the matter it was decided that the same type of franchise ordinance be adopted, that. the expiration date be December 31, 1959 and Chet the Yellow Cab Company have 27 cabs and the Vets Cab Company have 10 cabs. No action was taken at this,time and Mr. Kremer and Mr. Petersen were requested to get together on the use of cab stands and report back to the Council at the meeting on Monday, April 23rd, Mayor McQuillan reported that he. had received a telephone call from Senator Walter Burdick who stated he did not think the Minnesota. State Highway ,Department should tell the Council how to.park on Broadway and he would be glad to introduced a Bill to remedy the situation and limit the powers of the Highway Department.
