Alderman Moody movedthat Alderman Schroeder act as President pro tem, Alderman Whiting seconded the motion and upon roll call all voted in favor thereof; Presidentpro tem Schroeder called the meeting to order at 5:00 p; me the following members being present:. President pro tem•Schroeder, Aldermen Anderson, Moody, Schwanke,,Whiting. Absent: President Bach and Alderman Tingley. The call of the special meeting was read and President pro tem Schroeder ordered the same placed on file, the said meeting having been called for the purpose of considering the -plans submitted by the Minnesota Highway Department for resurfacing T. H. 63 on Broadway and any other business the said Common Counci may deem proper. Mayor McQuillan reported that a delegation made up of Aldermen Whiting and Tingley, Gene Haylett, Manager of Chamber of -Commerce, C. A. Armstrong, City Engineer and himself had met with the Commissioner of Highways, in regard to the construction of islands on Broadway, on Tuesday and that they -were given to under- stand that it was impossible for the State to delete islands from the bid which was to be opened on Friday, but since then had received a call from C.A.Swanson, District Engineer, requesting that the Council delay action on the matter for a few days. Mr. C. A. Swanson was present and informed the Council that he had received a call from an assistant to M. J. Roffman, Highway Commissioner, asking t-he City to hold any action in abeyance until next Monday or Tuesday. Alderman Whiting moved to table action on this matter until there is a further communication from the Commissioner of Highways and that the President of the Common Council be requested to call a special meeting- at such time as such further communication is received. Alderman Schwanke seconded the motion and all voted in favor thereof. Mayor McQuillan stated that the Council had been invited, by Captain The of the National Guard Company, to go to Camp Ripley on June 23rd and he would like to know how -many could go. Alderman -Schroeder was to contact each Alderman and report to Captain Thede how many would be able to go, Mayor McQuillan stated that a. group of people, headed by Dave Bishop, who were trying to get a Y.M.C.A. started in the City, had requested permission to use the Council Chambers for a meeting of their group on Friday night. There was no objection to their request. Mayor McQuillan stated that he had received complaints about the unsight area on loth Street Northwest next to the Cascade Creek bridge and recommended that the Council take some action to clean up the place. A motion was made by Alderman Schwanke authorizing the Mayor to direct owners to clean up this unsightly area. Alderman Whiting seconded the motion and all voted in favor thereof.
