Minutes of a special meeting of the Common Council of the City of Rochester,
Minnesota,, held in the Council Chambers., in the, City Hall, in said .City, on October
26th, - 1923; , at 8 o'clock P. IUi.
Meeting called to order,by President Weekse
Roll Call: Present: Weeks, Lemmon, Newhouse, Roeder, W, tzjk-e. Absent: Cook,
Kitzman.
The call for the special meeting was read.; the said meeting, being called
for the purpose of considering the applications of the Modern Woodmen of America;, the
American Legion Auxiliary, William H.' Burrows, and the Girls' Get Together for per-
mits to hold, give and conduct public dances, and such other business as said Common
Council might deem propera '
The application of the modern Woodmen of America, by Herman Fischer, its
Agent, for a permit to hold, give and conduct public dances in the building known as
1% "roadway Street South on October'27th, `and November 3rd, 1923; the application

of Mrs. H. H. Witherstine, as President, and Mrs. G. P, Gentling, as Secretary of
the American Legion Auxiliary of the William T. McCoy Post, for permit to hold, give
and cop -duct a public dance in the Masonic Temple on October 29th, 1923; the applica-
tion of `Catherine Sawyer, Chairman, and ?babel Van Campen, ° Secretary, of the Girls'
Get Together, for permit to hold, give and conduct a public dance in the National
Guard Armory, on November 2nd, 1923; and the'applieation of William H. Burrows for
permit to 1 hold, give and conduct public dances in the Olmsted County Cooperative
'guilding on November lst., 1923, and November 8th, 1923, were each separately read.

Alderman Cook came in at this time and took his Chair.
Alderman Newhouse introduced a resolution granting William H. Burrows
permit to hold, give and conduct public dances in the Olmsted County Cooperative
Building on November lst, 1923, and November 8th, 1923, and fixing the fee for tihe
said dances at the total sum of $10800,, which was read.
Upon motion by Roeder second by Wttzke, and all voting in favor.thereof,
President Tleeks declared said resolution duly passed and adopted.
Alderman.. Newhouse introduced a resolution ,granting permit to the Girls'
Get Together, by Catherine Sawyer), Chairman, and Mabel Van Campen, Secretary, to
hold, give and conduct'a publicdance in -the National Guard Armory on November 2nd,
1923s.and fixing the fee at the'isum of p100, which was read.
Upon motion by Lemmon second by Cook, and all voting in favor thereof,
President Weeks declared said resolution duly Passed and adopted.

Upon motion by Witzke second by Roeder, and all voting in favor thereof,
President Weeks declared said resolution duly passed and adopted.

Alderman Newhouse introduced a resolution granting permit to
the American Legion, Auxiliary, by Mrs,. T?. H. Witherstine, President, and
Mrs. G. P. Gentling, Secretary, to hold, give and -conduct 'a public dance.

Upon motion by Cook second by Lemmon, and all voting in favor
r thereof, President Weeks .declared said resolution duly paned and adopted
The application of Adler and -Bach for permit to place and main-
tain a sign on the .building known as No. 19 Second Str ee�t Southwest., was
.read, and mot.ion.by Newhouse second by Roeder carried that such permis-
sion be granted.

The reports of the City Attorney to the effect that he had
:checked the reports of the Clerk of the Municipal Court .for the weeks
;ending October 8th, 15th and 22nd, 19239and found the same to be correct,
were each separately read, and motion by Lemmon second by Cook carried
that the said reports, of the City Attorney be accepted and placed on file
and that the said, reports of the Clerk of the Municipal Court be accepted

The official bond of Erwin Fe Stoppel, as Patrolman,in the
amount of $500,00, with Elmer Be Hagen, and Corwin Stoppel, as sureties
,thereon, each in the amount of j50OjO0, was read, and motion by Cook

second by Newhouse carried that the said sureties be accepted, and that

the said bond be approved and placed on file.
Motion by Lemmon second by Witzke carried that the sum of
,$11.44 be appropriated from the General Fund and paid to D. L. Williams,
Postmaster, for 500 two cent stamped envelopes for use of the, City Engine -

The claim of Eugene 0' Conno"r ih the amount of $42,05 for '$44.50
over charge for paving and Interest against the North 83-'� feet of Lot 12
in Block 3,' in A. W.' Kutzky's Addition, less �$2 45 interest on , 113i30
for the period June lat, 1923,' to -October loth, 1923, inclusive, --was read,,
and motion by Lemmon second by Cook carried that the said.. :sum be appro-
'priated from the Permanent Improvement Revolving Fund, . and that the
Mayor and City.Clerk be authorized and directed to draw a warrant upon

• the City Treasurer and make payment accordingly:
The appointment, by the Mayor, of Herman Fischer as a Special
:Policemen at the Modern Woodmen Hall, he to, serve without pay and to
hold office until the second Monday in, April, 1924s unless sooner removed ,
wa.s read, and President Weeks ordered that the same be placed on file.
On motion by Lemmon second by Cook Council adjourned:
