Hall from.its present location so as to open,up Broadway for this improvement, and
Whereas Mr�. Babcock seems inclined to push this work as rapidly as
conditions will permit,. and one of these conditions is the removal of the present
Fire Hall, and
Whereas there are apparently not many building projects planned for the
coming winter thus leaving labor in the building trades unemployed at a time when
it becomes a hardship for them and their families to be deprived of their earnings,
and
Whereas, if the election for the voting of these bonds should be deferred
until an amendment is voted .upon so as to permit voting on bonds at a general
election, it would be more than eight months -before the work on the fire hall could
be started. '
Now therefore, be it resolved V the Tax Payer's'League of the City of
Rochester that the City Council be requested to call a special election at the
earliest possible date to vote bonds"in art amount not to exceed the sum of Sint*
Thousand dollars to provide the necessary funds. for the construction of a new Fire
Hall to be built upon City owned property on' South Broadway in Block 102 of Willson'
Addition.
Be it further resolved that the City Council be requested to have plans
and specifications prepared so t4at work can be commenced as soon as the bonds are
voted, and that home mechanics shall be employed at the scale of wages prevailing .
in..the.�,C.ity. of Rochester.; ..and-. that building laborers be paid the scale of wages
paid by the. City :Engineers' Department of said city of Rochester, . and that in

Gentlemen:
WWhereas, Mr. Babcock has decided to route Highway #59 south on
Broadway, and looks towards the removal of the fire hall so that work
.can be commenced soon, and
Whereas, there are not many large building pr o jeets for this
winter, thus leaving .tabor in the building trades unemployed at this time.
Therefore, be .it ..resolved that the eouncil.be requested to call a
special session for the purpose of voting bonds for the erection of a new
fire hall on. City owned prop rty on South Broadway, and that a local
architect be employed to prepare plans,and specifications so that work can
be commenced as soon as bonds are.votede
Be it further resolved that home building mechanics be employed at
the standard scale of wages prevailing in this city; also that home building
laborers be employed 'at the scale of wages that is being paid by the city
engineers department `of Rochester, and that this be specified in the letting.

Julius J. Reiter, George Lemke, and John S.-Reed, talked in
favor ofthe calling of a special election for voting on the question of
the Issuance of bonds for the construction of a new oentral fire station..
while Rev. A. R. Zick said that such procedure would be rather premature
,inthat the Charter Commission has been requested to --propose an amendment
which will allow bond questions to be voted on at Geheral elections and
thereby save special election costs, and further in his discussion of the
matter said that it is not good business practice .for. municipalities to
find employment for the unemployed at.,the expense of the tax payers.
Henry 0. Christensen d&-lead of the Commercial Club Committee
I. investigating the matter of costs, etc.., t.;..-. relative to the construction
of a new local S6ntral fire station, asked for further time in order that
his Committee may have time to fully cover the questions involved, and it
was agreed that the Common Council would meet with those interested,in
the Council ChamL�ers, in the City,Hall'on December 4th 1929.

varnishing, etc., of the inside and outside of the City Hall, under contract, which

apply on the construction of a surface drainage sewer in Second Street
Southeast, from Fifteenth Avenue Southeast, to Eleventh Avenue Southeast,
under Job No.1560, which was read..
Upon motion by Rommel, second by.Schroeder, that the said resolu—

Pursuant to the request of the Board of.Park Commissioners,
conditioned that all receipts above the cost of operation, be returned
