HomeMy WebLinkAbout10-27-1930741 a Minutes of an adjourned regular meeting of the Common Council of the City of Rochester, Minnesota, held in the Council Chambers, in the City Hall, in said City, at 7:30 o'clock P.M., on October 27th,1930. Meeting called to order by Presidont Liddle. Roll Call, Present: Liddle, Amundsen, Dallman, Hicks, Miller, Rommel, Vihstadt. Absent: None. President Liddle announced this as` being the time and place fixed for a hearing on the grading to an established grade line of the alley running East and We through Block 8, in Wm, McCullough' 9 Addition,, and asked i f there was any person present who wished to be heard concerning this improvement, There was no person present who wished to be heard. Alderman Hicks introduced the following resolution, which was read: "Be it resolved by the Common Council of the City of lochester,Minnesota: That the said d Common Council does hereby assent to and approve the levy of takes to the amount of Three hundred fifty one thousand nine hundred forty one Dollars ($351941000) for.general school purposes, made by the Board of Education of School. District No,8 of the said Cit;k on the 7th day of October, 1930, on the taxablt pribperty within, said School District No,8." Upon motion by Rommel, second by Amundsen, that the said resolution be adopted as read, and all voting in favor thereof, President Liddle declared the said resolution duly passed and adopted. The report of the Milk Inspector for the month of Septemuer,1930, was read, and President Liddle ordered that the same be placed on file. The following applications for public dance permits were read; . Percy'Cline for Woodman Hall October 31st,1930; Sanford Ward for the Woodman Hall October 29th,1930; Raymond W. 'Jung for the Woodman Hall, October 30th,1930. . The application of the 'fellow Cab Company for transfer of taxicab license No. 9 from a 7 passenger Cadillac, bearing State of Minnesota license B153891,to a 7 passenger Cadillac bearing State of Minnesota License B46987, and transfer of .taxicab license No,8'from a 7 passenger.Cadillac bearing State of Minnesota license No.B153890,to a 7 passenger Cadillac,bearing State of Minnesota license B58262, was read, and upon motion by Vihstadt, second' by Miller, the transfers were granted. The application of J Cf Adams for the transfer of taxicab license No. a � 23 covering a 5 passenger Ford Sedan with State license B155684,to cover a 1929 Graham Paige 5 passenger Sedan with State license B168781, was read, and upon Vihstadt motion by =, second by Dallman, the tirgnsror.-was granted. 442 Upon motion by Rommel, second by Dallman, .the City Clerk was instructed to attend t : the transfer of the fire and tornado insurance on the equipment and contents of the old Central Fire Station to. cover the same in the new Central Fii-e Station. A communication from the Business and Professional Women's Club, notifying of the selection of Miss Mary L. Sweeney as a member from that organization to serve on the Citizen's Committee, relative to the guture location of the clock recently removed from the old Central Fire Station, was read, and President Liddle ordered that the same be placed on file. t A communication from Mr: Paul Ahles, City Attorney of St.Cloud, Minnesota, setting forth a situation that they have there as to delinquent. special assessmants, and asking for cooperation in state legislation for a remedy, was read, and President Liddle ordered that the same be placed on file. J. Dion as a gpeeial Policeman.for duty upon the High School property, he. to serve without pay and to,hold office until the, second *onday in April, 1931, unless sooner removed, were each read, and President Liddle ordered .that the same be placed on file. Alderman Amundsen introduced a 14-a#b4tion appropriating $326.61 from the Sewer Fund, and ordering payment made to the.Red Wing Sewer Pipe Company for 370 feet of 18 inch sewer pipe and 60 feet of 10 inch sewer pipe, which was read. Upon motion by Rommel, second by Amundsen, that the said resolu- tion be adopted as read, and all voting in favor thereof, President Liddle s •• declared{ the said res olut ion duly passed and adopted; Alderman Rommel introduced a resolution appropriating $272,40 from the Sewer Fund,and ordering payment made ' to the City of Rochester ,Light Department for power furnished for the•°-Avegl Sewage Disposal Plant, in accordance with billing of October 15th,1930, which was read. 7431 a Upon motion by Vihstadt, second by Amundsen, that the said resolution be i adopted as read, and all voting in favor thereof, President Liddle declared the said resolution duly passed and adopted. Alderman Rommel introduced a resolution appropriating I111000.00 from the Street and Alley Fund,dnt $500,00 from the Sewer 'Fund,for use of the Street and Alley Committee, which was read. UPOn-motI on by Hicks, second by Dallman, that the said resolution be adopted as read, and all voting in favor thereon President Liddle declared the said resolution duly passed and adopted. i Alderman Dallman introduced a resolution ordering plans, profiles, speci- fications and estimate of cost for the grading to, an established grade line of the alley running East -and West across Block 8 in Wm,�MeCullough's Addition, ordering that the said improvement be made and done, and that the cost thereof be paid for by special assessments levied as provided by law, which was read, Upon motion by Vihstadt, second by Rommel, that the said resolution be be adopted as read, and all voting in favor thereof, President Liddle declared TJw said resolution duly passed and adopted, The City Engineer submitted plans, profiles, specifications and estimate of cost for uhe grading of the said alley in Block 8; the said estimate of cost being I; $3 70.02 . Alderman Hicks introduced a resolution adopting the said pland, profiles, and specifications for the said grading of the alley running East and West across Block 8 in Wm. McCullough's Addition, and ordering that the same be placed on file, i in the office of the City Clerk of said City, ordering that the said est imalge of cost be _:laced on file in the office of the City Clerk of said City, ardering that the said improvement be made and done, and that The cost thereof be paid for by 0 special assessments levied as provided by law, ordering notice of public hearing for 7:3u o'clock P.M,, November 10th,1930, and ordering advertisement for bids to 1 be ope ned at 7:30 o' c loc k P.M. , on November 10th 11930., whi ch was , read. Upon motion by Hicks, second by Dallman, that the said resolution be adopted as read, and all voting in favor thereof, President Liddle declared the said resolution duly passed and adopted. Alderman Rommel introduced the following resolution, which was read: I "WHEREAS, The City Engineer of tht City of Roehester.,Minnesota, in assigning the property description benefitted by the construction of sidewalk under Job No,l50._, and in assigning the property benefitted by the sidewalk constructed under Job No.1503, made an error in that Job 1502 should have applied to the East 2 feet of 1 Lot 8, Block 9, in'Moirningside Sub -Division instead of his assignment to the East 2 feet of Lot 8, in Block 1 in Morningside Sub -Division, and in that hiS..'assignment of Job 11503 to Lot 7 in Block 1, in Morningside SubVDivision should have been Lot 73, In Block 9, in Morningside Sub -Division; l i j. 4 03 THEREFORE, Be it resolved by the Common Council of the City i of Rochester, Minnesota: 'I That the sum of 148.47 is hereby appropaited from the Street and Alley Fund of said City and itis ordered that the same be paid to John J. Creeden and F. A, Wolfe for refundment of the error made in assessing Lot 7 In Block 1, Morningside Sub -Division for the above mentioned sidewalk constructed under Job no.1503, and the sum of $3.13 is hereby appropriated from the Street and Alley Fund of said City and it i`s ordered that the same be paid to E. E. Upon motion by hicks, second by Amundsen, that the said resolution be adopted as read, and 9,11 voting in favor thereof, President, Liddle declared the said resolution duly passed and adopted, Alderman Rommel introduced a resolution granting public dance permit to Sanford Ward, for the Woodman Hall, October 29th 91930, and fixing the fee at the sum of $5*00, which was read. Upon motion by Rommel, second by Hicks, that the said resolutiion be adopted as read, and all voting in favor thereof, President Liddle declared the said resolution duly passed and adopted. Alderman Miller introduced a resolution granting public dance permit to Raymond W, Jung for the Woodman Hall, October 30th,1930, and j fixing the fee at the sum of $5.00, which was read. Upon motion by Dallman, second by Vihstadt, that the said resolution be adopted as read, and all voting in favor hereof, President Liddle declared the said resolution duly passed acid adopted. Upon motion by Miller, second by Rommel, the above mentioned report of the Public Grounds Committee relative to the Silver Lake Project was approved. Upon motion by Miller,second by Hicks, the City Engineer was ' Instructed to survey and thereby secure the legal descriptions of the proper— ties+to be tak-en f-or--the Silver Lake project,at an expenditure of not to j exceed $199,00. Upon motion by Hicks, second by Rommel, the matter of the extension of the surface drainage sewer in Mayo Park was referred to the Sewer Committee with power to act in an expenditure not to exceed $199,000 Upon motion by Hicks, second by Miller, the Common Council ii adjourned, I i! i City Clerk„
