M:; on July 25thq 1932: Meeting called to order by President Liddle. Roll Call. Present: Liddle, Amundsen, Dallman, dicks, Miller; Moody. Absent: Norton. The call for the special meeting was read said'meeting being called for the purpose of releasing $5,00040 -Union National Bank Collateral Trust deposit and accepting other securities in place of it, and any other businass that the said Common Council might deem proper. The application of Harold Eyres for driver's license; was read, and upon motion by Millen- second by Amundsen, the license was granted. The applications of Bennie Molstad and Be J. Perkins for Soft Drink dealer licenses, were each read, and upon motion by Hicks, second by r - Amundsen, the licenses were grantedo The application &ff 3emel Brothers for a Junk Buyer and Junk P a Collector's license covering two automobiles, was read, and upon motion by Dalhaan, second by Dicks, the license was granted. The license bond of Charles Bemdl and Nathan Bemel,.doing �f business as Bemel Brothersswith the National Surety Company as surety thereon in the amount of `1,000, covering their license to buy and collect junk, was read, and upon motion by Dallman, second by Hicks, the said surety was accepted, the said bond was approved, and it was ordered that the same be placed on file. The City Clerk presented $109-00, which was filed by L. 0. Lysne preparatcry to application fora house-mover;�,s license, yvlhich was never granted or issued for the moving of the Dr. H. A. Meehan house from Third Avenue South east and Twelfth Street Southeast to its present location on Center Street West, and upon motion by Hicks, second by Amundsen, the said $10,00 currency was accepted into the General Fund: A petition asking that First Avenue Northeast, between Seventh e Street Northeast, and Tenth Street Northeast, sprinkled or treated during the balance of the' 1932 season, was read, as was the petition that gravel be placed on the said part of First Avenue Northeast, that a street number sign be placed on the telephone pole at Ninth Street and First Avenue, and t�iat a stop sign be placed C at the intersection of Eighth Street Northeast and First Avenue Northeast, and upon motion by Dal?lman, second by Moody, the City Engineer was authorized and directed to secure the necessary labor and materials and sprinkle or treat the said part of First Avenue Northeast during the balance of t 'ie 1932 season. The following communication relative to the waiver of license fees, was reed, and upon motion by Hicks, second by Moody,,the same was referred -to the, License Committee with instruction that they make j report thereon at the next meeting of this Common Council: "July 13, 1932 TO THE HONOF.AbLF, MAYOIR & COTAMON COUNCIL RO CHESTER, MINNESOTA Gentlemen: - We. the Rochester Amusement Company of Rochester, Minnesota, operating the Chateau, Lawler and Empress T`;.eatres are confronted with serious weekly operating losses at this time and have made every possible effort to keep the theatres open for business. The operating costs of the Chateau Theatre made it impossible to t continue and the theatre was, therefore, closed indefinitely until a return of normal conditions. Closing of the Chateau Theatre added further to the unemployment of Rochestery The Rhateau Theatre was one of thelargest consumers of electricity in the city and with its closing, themunicipal lighting plant lost an important source of revenue for the cityii 1 4 Business conditions now make it necehsary for us to re- trench further and every saving possible will ai.d to koep tr.e two remaining theatres in operation, insure employment for those now on our payrolls and continue the use of municipal electricity and heat.
