Dear Sir:
Our Mr. Ohland has written us advising us that the braaze
rail on the top of the swinging gates wk4ch we furnished in connection
with your county }rave tarnished badly from usage. We are very sorry
to learn of this situation.
The specifications of the architect called for bronze rail.
It has been ourr xperienee that regardless of the type of bronze used,
on a swinging gate, it is impossible to prevent it from tarnishing.
Being touched by hands seems to tarnish bronze regardless of any other
condition.
The only way to take care of this bronze properly would be to
remove it and have it replated, and then to each day have the janitor
keep it cleaned with a metal polish. '
Wherever we have an opportunity, we are designating a gate
which can be covered with an application of a rubber moulded shape
or piece of bakelite to prevent this tarnishing condition on bronze.
