HomeMy WebLinkAbout03-21-1933Minutes of a special meeting of the Common Council of the City of Rochester., Minnesota, held in the Council Chambers, in the City Hall, in said City, at 7: 30 o' clock D.M. , on March. 21st,1933. Meeting called. to order by President Liddle. Roll Call. Present: Liddle, Amundsen, Dallman, '.goody, Norton. Absent: Hicks, Miller. The call for the special meeting was read; said meeting being called for the purpose of considering sanitary sewer construction for relief of section east of Broadway, north df Second Street Northeast and West of Zumbro river, and any of-er business that the sand Common Council, might deem proper. Alderman Hicks came in at this time and took his Chair. The Mayor stated that this meeting had been called with with the expectation that he would receive a reply from Burns 8- McDonnell Engineering Company, as to what they would charge for a few days consul— tation service relative to trunk line sewer plains, and sa,i.d that as soon as their proposal is received he will submit it for Council action. Replies to letters sent out by the City Clerk rel^ttive to the use of stpm.p scrip, calling on theMayors of Cleveland, Ohic, Dayton, Ohio, Staples, Minnesota, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Spring Valley, Minnesotat, Rice Lake,Wisconsir., and Hawarden, Iowa, calling on them for information as to their experience in the use of scrip money, were each read, and President Liddle ordered that the same be placed on file (T?o reply having been received from Evanston, Illinois.); the said letters written by the City Cldrk being quoted as follows: "The citizens of the City of Rochester are considering the issuance of stamp scrip, and are desirous of hearing from those municipalities th:t have co-iauenced the use of scrip.as to the details setting up the plan, etc. Accordingly we will appreciate it very much if you will inform us in the enclosed self addressed envelope how much scrip you propose to issue, what rate of sts..mp tax you are usi-,.g, ;Drat the stayap tax revenue is to be used for, the plan that you used to sell the scrip (original issuance), etc. Thanking you for this information and for a s^mple of the scrip and of the stamps, if available, I wish to rtwa.in, " The Mayor submitted samples of blank scrip ^,:.,.d President Liddle ordered that the same be placed on file. 333 as The official bond of Carl G. Sehwp,r7,, /City Treasurer, .1th. the '.dassachusets Ponding & Insurance Company as surety thereon in the amount of �'50,000. 0 i was read, and, upon motion by Dallmnn, second, by Hicks, the said surety was accepted, t-he —Ad bond -:Was approved, and it was ordered that the same be placed on file. The official bond of Ralph I. TjaPlant, as City Assessor, with the Fidelity ° Casualty Company of New '.Fork 9,s surety thereon, in the amount of 1500.00, was read, and upon motion by Hicks, second by Amundsen, the said surety was accepted, the said bond was approved, and it was ordered that the same be placed on file.
