HomeMy WebLinkAbout06-03-1933A V1IUD Minutes of a special meeting of the Common Council of the City of Rochester, Minnesota, held in the Council Chambers, in the City Hall, in said City, at 10:00 o'clock A. M., on June 3rd, 1933. Meeting called to order by President Liddle. Roll Call. Present: Liddle, Amundsen, Hicks, Miller, Moody, Norton. Absent: Dallman. The call for the special meeting was read; said meeting* being called for the purpose of hearing reports from the old (Park Band) and the new (Legio#) band committees, and any other busineds that the said Common Council might deem propel Rev. GO.Sheridan presented and read the following report. and President, Liddle ordered that the same be placed on file: " June 1,1933 To the President and Members of the Common Council of Rochester, Minnesota. Gentlemen: In compliance with your request made at a meeting; of the Council held Wednesday evening, May 24,1he Rochester Municipal Park Band Committee met with the Music Committee of the American Legion on Thursday, June 1. At that meeting I was authorized by both committees to appear before your honorable body and submit our report. The nature . of your request leads me to assume that you are not concerned with details or personalities, but rather with the agreement of both committees. However I do wish to state that after a very frank discussion, both committees agreeing on some things, agreeing, to disagree on others arrived at a place of willingness to co-operate for the good of all concerned. Therefore, I have the honor to convey to you the unanimous decision of both committees as assembled. ---------------------- We request the Council to consider the following: 1. The recognition of the present Band committee and the authorisa- tion by the Council of the jppointment of two additional members, one to represent the Rochester Male Chorus, and one to represent the Rochester Womens Chorus. or in lieu of this 2. The authorisation of a new committee the personnel of which should be as representative as the present Band Committee with additional representatives from the Male Chorus and Womens Chorus. Sheridan For the Rochester Band Committee and Music Committee of V-ie American Le?i M.�;yor Reiter recommended that salary payments and expense items be paid by Council appropriations drawn upon the City Treasurer and that the Common Council create a Common Council standing music committee or at least provide that a Council member sit in on band committee deliberations. Upon motion by Miller, secrnd by Moody, proposition No.l of the above quoted band committee report was adopted; Rev. Sheridan explaining that the collmittee members representing the Male Chorus and. the Women's Chorus will be selecte I 4-50 by the directors of the organization concerned. Upon motion by Nicks, second by Miller, it, was ordered that a member of the Common Council be appointed as an additional member of the Park Band Committee personnel and President Liddle according- 1V appointed.Alderman Norton to represent the Common Council on the said committee* Upon motion by Miller, second by Amundsen, it, was ordered that,hereafter,iidisbursements from the M��sical. Entertainment Fund shall be onlyupon theAully Se ti fi rdy' s S/ y certifie and verified payrolls for salaries, and upon sworn claims for expense items. In the consideration of fees for City Dog Catcher services it was agreed that in the event a dog is impounded and not redeemed within the three days limit that the owner has for paying the license fee and the Dog pa.tcher fee before redemption of the dog, it was agreed that at the end of those three days, after duly published notice, the dog concerned,remaining unredeemed, shall be killed in a humane manner by an anesthesis, asphyxiation oroyanide poisoning, at w?,ich the Dog Catcher shall receive from the City of Rochester, Minnesota, $.50 for each dog so killed and buried; the claim of the City Dog Catcher for such services rendered to be approved by the Chief of Police.
