HomeMy WebLinkAbout12-15-1933Minutes of a special meeting of the Common Council of the City of Rochester, Minnesota, held in the Council Chambers, in the City Hall, in said City, at 5:00 oclock P.M., on December 15th,1933. The meeting was called to order by President Liddle. Roll Call: Present: Liddle, Amundsen, Dallman, Hicks, Miller, Moody, Norton. Absent: None. The call for the special meeting was read; said meeting having been called for the purpose of award of contract for the construction of a bridge on Fourth Street Southeast over the Zumbro River and a bridge on Fourteenth Street Northwest.over Cascade Creek, any other business the said Common Council might deem proper. Alderman Norton introduced the following resolution,which was read: { i "Be it resolved by the Common Council of the City of Rochester, Minnesota: ` That the bid and proposal'of C. C. Pagenhart, an individual, an M.E.Souther, Inc., doing business as a partnership, for the furnishing of all labor, materials, equipment, tools, etc., necessary for the construction of a steel and concrete bridge of three 3B�l spans, consisting of two steel reinforced concrete abutments and retaining tpalls, two chdraiel piers, steel floor beams, with 30' concret ; roadway, with two 5' 4" concrete sidewalks, and pre -cast concrete railing, and with I s luting system, in Fourth Street Southeast. over the %umbro River, in accordance with the plans, profiled and specifications for the said bridge whiclk:06re on file in the office of the City Clerk of said City. -viz: I Bid for temporary foot bridge 600000 Bid for removal of old structure, including y foundation, lump sum, 300.00 Bid for new structure, lump sum, 229070400 Total bid, $ 229970.00 Schedule of unit prices for increased or decreased items of work:' Grade "A" Concrete, per cue yd. Decrease $ 11.00 increase $14':00 Grade "B" Concrete, per cu. yd. Decrease $ 1540 Increase $20.00 Grade "C" Concrete, per cu. yd. Docket No.1473. The amount of the surety bona to be given by the said contracto is hereby fixed at the sum of $221970:00." Upon motion by Hicks, second by Dallman, that the said resolu- tion be adopted as read, and all voting in favor thereof, President Liddle declared i the said resolution duly passed and adopted.. Alderman Hicks introduced the following resolution, which was read: i 714 "Be it resolved by the Common Council of the City of Rochester, Minnesota: That the bid and proposal. of C. SoutbeT, Inc. , doing business As ' a partnership, for the furnishing of all labor, materials, equipment, tools, etc., necessary for the construction of a bridge consisting of two forty- foot spans, two steel reinforced concrete abutments, one channel pier, steel floor beams, with 30 foot roadway, two 5' 4" sidewalks, precast concrete rail, and lighting system, on Fourteenth Street Northwest, across Cascade Creek, and the grading of the east, west and north approaches, in accordance with the plans, profiles and specifications for the said bridge which are on file in the office of the City Clerk of said City, viz: Bid for new structure, lump sum, $ 12 9987*00 Schedule of unit prices for increased or decreased items of work: Grade `"A" Concrete, per cu. yd: Grade "B" Concrete, per cu. yd. Upon motion by Moody, second by Miller, that the said resolution be adopted as read, and all voting in favor thereof, President Liddle declared the said resolution duly passed and adopted. Alderman Amundsen introduced a resolution appropriating $210:40 from the Street and Alley Fund and ordering payment made to Henry Grassle, for 2104 cu. yds. gravel furnished to the City of Rochester, during tho period April lath, 1933, to and including December 14th919339 in ac co rdan ce with contract dated June 3rd ,1932 , which was read. Upon motion by Moody, second ,by Amundsen, that the said resolution be adopted as read, and all voting in favor thereof, Presi- dent Liddlw declared the said resolution duly passed and adopted. Council Chambers. Alderman Hicks was excused at this time and left the R.O:Austin,representing the Parent -Teachers organiza- tion of Rochester, requested that the Common Council authorize the Fire Department to flood the school skating rinks, but no action was taken on his request. Council adjourned. Upon motion by Moody, second by Norton, the Common Deputy City Clerk.
