The following communication was read, and President Liddle ordered that the same be placed on file: "CITY OF ROCHESTER, MINNESOTA Health Department Phone 2220 January 2nd, 1933 To the Honorable Mayor and Members of the Council Rochester, Minnesota Gentlemen: I regret having to request further financial assistance for the operation of the Hog Farm, to the extent of $10000-00. I had expected that two carloads of pigs purchased in September would have made it possible for us to finish the fiscal year without further assistance; but the consistantly low price of port and the death of over 25% of the pigs from cholera and necrotic enteritis has wiped out expected profits: We always suffer some loss on purchased pigs. It is unavoidable but seldom has the loss been large enough to be of any concern. Also I feel that the present almost unheard of low price of pork will not long continue and that feeding hogs with garbage will soon again be a profitable under- taking I would respectfully draw your attention to the fact that during this fiscal year the financial assistance required has not been as much as during the preceding two years. Your obedient servant, D. C.
