Meeting called to order by President Liddle. Roll Call. Present:.Liddle, Amundsen, Fryer, Green, Lemmon, Miller, Moody. Absent: None. The reports of the Clerk of the Municipal Court for the week r ending October 22nd,1934 9 showing criminal fines collected $203.309 civil fees d j received $5.60, conciliation court fees received $$30759 court costs charged to Olmsted County $4.459 and fines collected due to Olmsted County $25.001, and for the week ending October 2.9th,1934, showing criminal fines collected $312.10, civil fees r , received $11.40, conciliation Court Fees received,$30'509 Olmsted County municipal court fees received for September919349 $43,259 court costs charged to Olmsted County � 10.d0� and fines collected due to Olmsted County $70000 9 were each read � and President Liddle referred the same to the City Attorney. Upon motion by Amundsen second by Green the sum of $95:00 was appropriated from the General Fund, and it was ordered that the said sum be paid to Olmsted County,Minnesota, for local Municipal Court fines collected due to Olmsted C o untygMinnesota. Gentlemen: - It is the desire of the UNITED WORKERS ASSOCIATION of 0LK9VBB COUNTY and Rochester to take an employment census of the city by which �I means we wish to determine whether or not there are members of families ;! other than the heads of families, whose work, could be had by persons now unemployed, This we would suggest to apply in cases where the income of i the head of the family is sufficient to supply the sufficient necessities of the family. s 54 As you know we have previously requested you to use your influence with city employees in such cases, and we feel it to be no more than fair to extend it to the entire city. We therefore request you to howNuse your influence with the Council to make this undertaking official; and use the costomary means of publication to inform the citizens of Rochester of such actions In return, we will guarantee to furnish the necessary held for taking such census without any cost to_ the city. Mayor and Common Council of the city of Rochester,Minn. Gentlemen: - Due to the Pact that the Minimum wage scale, as set forth II in the amendment to Ordinance. #4159 providing that unskilled labor '' be paid for at the rate of (60j) sixty cents per hour, and be limited to (30) thirty hours per week; and due to the fact that this amendment to Ordinance #415 was read at three meetings previous to it's adoption April 9th 1934; and that the contract was let to contractor G. Swartz & Co., for remodeling and extension to the City I Light Plant on March 28th, 1934: which was after this Ordinance was introduced in the Council: we therefore petition you to at once take the necessary steps tb inforce this Ordinance on this job; either by reimbursing contractor G. Swartz & Co., to the amount of the differ- ence in wages, or by the fact that said contractor Swart.s must have known by the above facts set forth, or should have been informed of such possibility of an increase in the city wage scale and hours of working. It is our understanding that this public work was created to make work for needy citizens who otherwise would be forced upon relief rolls. Lentf er, Secretary " 506 II The following copies of resolutions passed and adopted by the NMIc Utility Board were each read and President Liddle ordered that the same be placed on file: "WHEREAS, under date of October 1.3th919329 the Public Utility Board passed the following resolution: WHEREAS, it is the opinion of the Public Utility Board that the City Light and Water Department should pay to the General Fund of the City an established amount to be used for said General Fund purposes and to be called a Tax on Gross Income of the said Light and Water Departments, and WHEREAS, it is also the opinion of the said Public Utility Board that the said Light and Water Departments should receive an established fair rate for Street Lighting and hydrant rentali THEREFORE, Be it and it is hereby resolved tbat'nthe Public Utility Board does hereby request the Honorable Common Council to ,authorize the said Board to appropriate TEN PERCENT (10%) of the Gross lIncome from the sale of Electricity and water for all purposes, monthly, to the said General Fund, and Be it and it is hereby further resolved that said appropriation to the said General Pund by the City Light and Water Depart- ment shall be made only upon the condition that the amount of three cents per K.W.H. for street lighting and twenty dollars per hydrant for Hydrant Rental be included in the amual budget tax levy and paid to the said City Light and Water Departments when collected, and Be it and it is hereby further resolved that the said Tax on Gross Income be, upon authority from the Common Council, declared payable monthly beginning on January 191933.1 and which resolution was further amended to make said Gross Income payments retroactive to April 191932.9 under date of October 2491932, and WHEREAS, the Public Utility Board received an aquiry from the Honorable Common Council as to whether said Board is avonable to continuing the income tax donations to the General Tax Levy redit. Upon motion by Lemmon second by Amundsen the sum of $21.34 was appropriated from the Park Improvement Fund and it was ordered that the said sum be paid to Albert Keel, as compensation for injury, June 26th919349 to July 13th, 1934,inc lusive.
