HomeMy WebLinkAbout03-01-1937999 MAR 1 1937 Minutes of a regular meeting of the Common Council of the City of Rochester, Minnesota, held -in the Council Chambers, in. the City Hall, in said City, II on .March lst91937. President. Liddle. called the meeting to order at 2:00 o'clock P.M., the following members being pregent: Liddle, Amundsen, Fryer, Green, Lennon, Moody, II Richman. Absent: None. :Upon motion by Richman second by Amundsen the minutes of the meeting of February 24th, were approved: The report of the Clerk of the Municipal Court, for the week ending February 22nd, showing criminal fined and coats collected $96.959 civil fees receive II$19.00, conciliation court fees received $4.85, was read, and President Liddle referred the same to the City Attorney. The report of the Northern Natural Gas Company of gas tests taken at Sioux City, Iowa, showing an average B.T.U. of 1027 for the week ending January 27th, 1020 for the week ending February 39 1024 for the week ending February loth, and 1036 for the week ending February 17th, were mead. The report of the City Engineer i_'or tye month of February showing disbursements for labor from the General Fund of $39.051, from the street and Alley Fund $1642.86, and from the Sewer Fund $546.72, was read, and President Liddle IIordered that the same be placed on file. A requisition from the City Engineer for an appropriation of $2,000.00 from the Street and Alley Fund for use of the Street and Alley Committee was read, and ordered placed on file. The following Committee report was read, and President Liddle ordered that the same be placed on file: " Rochester,Minnesota,March 191937. Honorable Mayor and Common Council, City of Rochester , Minnesota: Gentlemen: The Finance Committee of the Common Council of this City have inspected the home of Dan McLaughlin at 24 Fourteenth Avenue Northeast,on 3 which the Firemen's Relief Association have requested authority to loan $340000 and the said Finance Committee hereby recommend that this loan be approved by the Common Council. An application signed by Iver Iverson for permit to place and F maintain a. sign at 105� South Broadway was read, and upon motion by Amund- senosecond by Fryer the application was granted. Alderman Amundsen introduced a resolution approving the action of the Public Utility Board in entering into a contract with the L.A.Kepp Contracting Company for the furnishing of all labor and materials for the wiring of the City Light Plant boiler room and wiring of motors and controls for the sum of $79290.00 9 which was read. Upon motion by Richman second by Green, that the said resolution bee -adopted as read, and all voting in favor thereof, President Liddle declared the said resolution duly passed and adopted. Alderman Moody introduced a resolution approving the action of the Public Utility Board in entering into contract with C. C. Pagenhart for the furnis.h.ing of all labor tools add materials for the construction Of a pump house ffththe Water Department for the sum of $29435.00 9which was read. Upon motion by Fryer second by La=on that the said resolution be adopted as read, and all voting in favor thereof, President Liddle declared the said resolution duly passed and adopted. Alderman Moody introduced a resolution appropriating $2,000.00 from the Street and Alley Fund for use of the Street and Alley Committee, I II which was read. Upon motion by Lemmon second by Moody that the said resolution be 11 adopted as read, and all voting in favor thereof, President Liddle declared the said resolution duly passed and adopted. Alderman Fryer introduced a resolution appropriating 0468.20 from the Park Improvement Fund and ordering payment made to the Mayo Trust Fund for payrolls for labor during the period of the weeks ending February 19t13, and 26th919379which was read. 211 h11.,.. i I., iz, Upon motion by Fryer second, by Amundsen that the said resolution be adopted as read, and all voting in, favor thereof, President Liddle declared the 1� said resolution duly passed and adopted. Alderman Green introduced a resolution appropriating -:?'327.15 from the y General Fund and ordering payment made to City of Rochest er, St eam Heating Department, for steam heat furnished at the City Hall, in accordance with the February 25th9193 I , billing,which was read. Upon motion by Moody second by Richman that the said resolution be adopted as read, and all voting in favor thereof, President Liddle declared the said resolution duly passed and adopted. Alderman Moody introduced a resolution appropriating S275.50 from the Lighting Fund, and ordering paymert made to the City of Rochester Light Department f or electricity furnished at public buildings, in accordance with the February 25th 1937, billings, which was read. Upon motion by Green second by Richman that the said resolution be adopted as read, and all voting in favor thereof, President Liddle declared the said resolution duly passed and adopted. Alderman Richman introduced a resolution appropriating $805.29 from P.W.A.Docket 1192-R, and ordering *payment made to. the Park Improvement Fund for transfer of balance from P.W.A.Docket Fund #1192-R, which was read. Upon motion by Moody second by Amundsen that the said resolution be adopted as read, and all voting in favor thereof, President Liddle declared the sai resolution duly passed and adopted. The ^ollowing applications for retailers off sale into-zicating liquor licenses were each separately read: Emanuel Kostakes, 116A Broadway Street South; Hazel V. Kitzman, 221 First Avenue Southwest; Joe Wallace, 16 First Avenue Northwesi�; Leo A.Hue�t, 230 South Broadway, R MiGreen, la First Street Southwest; Christ Margellos; 13 Sibyth Broadway; .Robert P. Kennedy, 12 Fourth Street Southwest; and Andrew C Chafoulias, at 6 North Broadway. Upon motion by Green second by Moody, and all voting in favor thereof, the foregoing applications for retailers off sale intoxicating.,liquor licenses were approved and licenses granted. 212 Aa - 1 1937 The following surety bonds covering retailers off ss.le intoxicating liquor licenser were each separately read: aanuel Kostakes with the Seaboard Surety Company of New York in the sum of 13s000a00) Hazel V. Kitzman, with the Seaboard Surety Company -in the sum of 3,000.0V; Joe Wallace, with the Seaboard Surety Company of New York in the .sum of $39000.00; Leo A.Huey, with the Seaboard Surety Company of New York in the sum of $3,000.00; R.M.Graen, with the Western Surety Company of Sioux Falls in the slue of $3.9,000.00; Christ Margellos with the Seaboard Surety. Company of New York in the sun of �?39000.00 and Robert, P. Kennedy, with the Standard Accident Insurance Company of Detroit , in the sum of $3,000.00 On motion by L eimnon second by Moody -the foregoing surety bonds were each approved, and the surety thereon accepted. The request signed by Andrew C.Chafoulias, that the ,', 0 .00 United Mates of Amerie.a 3 3/8 % treasury bonds, each in the sum of $1,000%00 and numbered 69482-B, 69483-C9 and 7079*F, each dated July 16th919289 and now in the hands of the City Treasurer in lieu of'a surety bond covering off sale liquor license, be continued in lieu of a surety, bond covering off bale liquor license granted on this day, was read, and on motion by Lemmon second by Moody, the above described sureties were accepted and said request was granted.
