HomeMy WebLinkAbout10-26-1937.i V `- -- OCT 26 1937 Minutes of, an :adjourned special meeting of the Common Council of the City of Rochester, Minnesota, held in the Council Chambers in the City Hall, in said City on October 26t h,1937. President Liddle called the meeting to order at 7:30 o'clock P.M. , the following members being present: Liddle, Amundsen, Fryer, Green, Lennon, Moody, Richman. Absent: None. The members of the Board of Education of School District No.e, and a number of other residents in various parts of the City were present. Mr. G:H. Sanberg, Superintendent of the Rochester Public Schools outlined the need of additional school facilities, and the reason for the request of the proposed bond issue. 11 Mr: George. W. Granger, attorney for the Board of Education, explained the provisions of the law under which the proposed bond issue is t,o be held. A number of other persons, present expressed their views on the matter. e m Alderman Amundsen introduced the following resolution, which was read: >` "WHFREAS, The Board of Education of Independent School District No.8 of r' f.: Olmsted County, otherwise known as the Board of Education of the City of Rochester, has filed with the City Clerk a certified copy of the following resolution which has s'" r been adopted by it: is 'Whereas the Board`'o -, Education of Independent School District No-8 of a Olmsted County, Minnesota, otherwise known as the Board of Education of the city of p6` Rochester, at a regular meeting ofsaid Board duly held on October 1991937, adopted T` a. resolution wherein it stated that it was the opinion ofthe Board of Education of xFr said school district that it was expedient to issue the bonds of said school district t o the total amount of eight hundred fifty thousand dollars for the following purposes. r,'• r` .rx ' Eight hundred thousand dollars 'or the purpose of defraying the expenses to be incurred in the construction of an addition to the Central School building, �.: installing heating, ventilating and plumbing plants therein and equipping the same --',, T with apparatus and other school furniture: Fifty thousand dollars for the purpose of de.graying the expenses to be 't' incurred in constructing an addition to the Hawthorne School buildin installing s building., g ,tE heating, ventilating and plumbing plants therein and equipping, the same vrith appara- . tus and other school furniture. Said bonds to bear interest at a rate not exceedin four per cent per annum payable semi-annually, to be dated March 1 1938 and to P � ya y > > mature and to be of the respective numbers and amounts as in said resolution stated an;; that the proposition of issuing said bonds be submitted to the electors of said district at a special election and meeting thereof to be held, on the 23rd day of November, 1937, between the hours of 9 o'clock A.M. and 7 o'clock P.M*,; Now, therefore, be it resolved that a copy of said.resolution and oft is resolution be transmitted by the clerk of this board to the Coimnon Council of the City of Rochester and that said Common Council be and it hereby is requested to call a special election of said school district to be held ]fa November 23,1937 between the hour s of 9 o'clock A.M. and 7 o'clock P.M—) 'for the purpose of submitting said �)roPosition to the electors of said district. Nowq thereforeq be it resolved by t1le Common Council of the City of Rochester that a special election and meeting of said School District *be held therein on November 2391937 between the hours of nine otelock in the forenoon and seven O'clock in the afternoon of said day$ for the Purpose of submitting said proposition to the electors* of said District.
