HomeMy WebLinkAbout01-17-1938��537 Minutes of an adjourned regular meeting of the Common Council of the City of Rochester, Minnesota, held in the Council Chambers, in the City Hall, in said City q on January 17th,1938: . President Liddle called the meeting to order at 7: 30 o'clock P.M.,, the following members being present: Liddle, Amundsen, Fryer, Green, Lemmon, Moody, Richman., Absent: None. u. Upon motion by Moody second by Richman, the minutes of the meeting; of 'r January 3rd, and January 12th, were approved. r. 4 President Liddle stated this as being the time set for a hearing on th construction of a trunk line sanitary sewer commencing at Broadway Street South an, Sixth Street Southwest, thence west and southwesterly to the sewer lift, and asked if any one present wished to .be heard concerning the said improvement: Julius J. Reiter was present and inquired regarding whether or, not assessments would be levied against property which already had sewer service, and was informed that such property would not be required to pay unless connections were made with the new sewer President Liddle stated this as being the time set for receiving and opening bids for the construction of the above described sewer and the following bids were received and opened at this time: Wm. President Liddle referred the above bids to the Sewer Committee wnd the City Engineer for recommendation. Mr. A.A. Kennedy, representing the Olmsted Countg_J.Building & Loan Association, was before the Council asking the Council to repeal Ordinance Noe279, which required that before any property may be annexed to the City of Rochester, ten percent thereof shall be deeded to the City of Rochester for public purposes4 Reports of the Clerk of the Municipal Court for the week ending Janu- ary 3rd showing criminal fines and costs collected`,1278.80, Civil fees received $4 60, conciliation court fees received $4.75, for the wee':: ending January 10 showing criminal fines and costs collected $99.60, civil fees received $4:85, and 538 _ 4 concilation court fees received $5.25, and Cor the week ending January 17t14 showing criminal fines and costs collected 1246e80 % civil fees received .=Y' $10.80 , and concilation court fees received $$2.5q were each separately read, amd having been previously approved by the City Attorney, President Liddle ordered that the same be placed on .file. $v, The report of the Building,Electrical and Plumbing. St.houis`=, r� x Missouri, in the sum of $200.06 with the Massac"husets Bonding and Insurance Company as surety thereon covering their c- &- for the ' V furnishing of 200 feet of fire hose to the City of Rochester , was read, t 1 and on motion by Lemmon second by Richman•the bond was approved, the surety thereon accepted, and it was ordered that the same be placed on file. Upon motion by second by Fryer, W.E:3•Ritchell Assistant ti .$ Superintendent of the Dumping Cround9 was grant-ed a ten day vacation commencing January 25th,193801- : Rev. Guy C.Menefee representing the Board of Public 'T.ealth and Welfare of the City of Rochester was before the Common Council and asked that additional funds might be provided for . in order that said �'• ° A Board could employ the services of an additional case worker for the balance of the present official year. IIAn application signed by Maass & McAndrew Company for a license to connect with sewers and drains in the City of: Rochester, together with a surety bond in the sum of $1,000.00, with the National Surety Corporation as surety thereon, were each separately read, and on motion by Fryer second by Amundsen, license was granted, -the bond approved, the surety thereon accepted, and it was ordered that the same be placed on file. An application signed by Francis Christopherson for a license to s connect with sewers and drains in the City of Rochester, together with a surety bon in the sum of $1,0000,-00 with the Fidelity & Casualty Company of New York as surety thereon, were each separately read, and on motion by Richman second by Green, licen was granted., the bond approved, the surety thereon accepted, and it was ordered that the same be placed on file.- An for a permit to place and maintain a sign at No.4 Second Street Sout -west, was read, and on motion by Amundsen second by Moody permit was granted. - Applications signed by Henry Foley for pub]tc dance permits in the A.O.U.W. Hall, on January 8th, 15th, and 22nd, were read. Applications signed by Lawrence Lloyd, Harold Sparks,. Harold G.Koelsch, Mifflin Proud, Sam Crandall,Jr:, Claude L.Bogart, Otto Siercks, Ha e-ld J.Waters, Wesley Sloan, Roger Enderson, Joe Manahan, Sidney N. Arneson, for drivers licenses were each read, and. on motion by Green second by Moody, licenses were granted. Copies of resolutions passed by the CommLssioners of the Sinking Fund on December 27th,1937,. -purchasing $309000:00 United States Savings Bonds, a resolu- tion dated January 7th,1938 purchasing w23,000.00 22 percent Minnesota Highway bonds due November 1st,1950, and $25,000 00 2gl% Minnesota Highway Bonds due November 1, 1951, and a resolution, dated llth,1938, purchasing ?$10,000.00 2*1% Highway Bonds due October 111950, were each read, and on motion by Fryer second by Ricrman the actions of the Cummistioners of said Sinking Fund, as therein.set forth were approved. 540 � .jai•' � �- F The following communitetion setting forth the action of the Board of Zoning was read., and President Liddle ordered th-t the same be placed. on file: " January 17,1933. Gentlemen: The Board of Zoning of the City of Rochester, met in the Council Chambers, in the City Nall on January 10919389 at 3.30 o'clock P.M., to consider the petition of Kris Nielson requesting; that the North 481.53 feet of that part of Outlot 5 Northern Addition to the City of Rohhester, which lies east of Third Avenue,. be ch,nged from a residential to an industrial district. At said meeting the Board heard all persons present who wished to be heard and adjourned to T*riday, January .14th, at 7:30 o'clock P.M.
