City of Rochester, Minnesota, held in the Council Chambers, in the City Hall, in said City, on June 13th91938. President Liddle called the meeting to order at 7:30 o'clock P.M., the following persons being present: Liddle, Amundsen, Fryer, Lemmon, .Moody, iRicbman. Absent: Green. . The call for.the special meeting was read and President Liddle ordered that the same.be placed on file; said meeting having been called for the purpose of receiving and opening '4ids for the furnishing of Police radio equipment, and any other business the paid Common Council might deem. proper. President Liddle stated this as being the time set for hearing on the construction of a trunk line sanitary sewer in First Street Northwest from Thirteenth Avenue Northwest to Sixteenth Avenue Northwest, and asked if any one present wished to be heard concerning said improvement. Mr. Joseph Fakler presented a petition signed by James McNamara et. al.,, protesting any assessment for the construction of said sewer on the property on the south side of said First Street Northwest from Thirteenth Avenue to Sixteenth Avenue, in view of the fact that said property is already served by a sewer in the alley at the rear of said property. President Liddle ordered that the petition be received and placed on file. i Mr. James Drummond, representing the committee appointed by the Common Council to make a survey of unnecessary noises was before the Council requesting permission to have a Fourth of July celebration in the City of Rochester by having a very artistic displgy of fireworks in Silver Lake Park, and on motion by Fryer second by Richman said request was granted. President Liddle stated this as being the time set for receiving and opening bids for police radio equipment. The following bids were received and opened at this time: E. F. Johnson Company, $2230.75. for furnishing of equipment but not including installation costs; R.C.A. Manufacturing Company, Alternate A.$2906.25 being one way communication; Alternate B. $3500,00 being two way communication; 0 71 U II The application signed by Ed. E. Kruger for a permit to hold two public dances in the A.O.U.W.Hall, on June 18th and 25th, was read. i The following communication was reed, and President Liddle is ordered that the same be placed on file: " June 7, 1938 J Honorable Common Council, City of Rochester, Minnesota. Gentlemen, I hereby appoint John F.McAdams as Weed Inspector in the City of Rochester, Minnesota, to hold office until the' second Monday in April,19399 unless sooner removed. Respectfully submitted, W. A. Moore, Mayor. " The following communication was read, and President Liddle i referred the same to the City Attorney: I' "June 13 ,1938 i! Honorable Mayor and Common Council • City of Rochester, Minnesota • • i? Gentlemen: Mr. I.V.Wurst has asked me to present to you for payment the attached statement of $33.26, which is for one tire for his truck. He tells me•that while the truck was being operated on Eleventh Avenue Northeast near Second Street and while passing over a manhole the cover gave way ruining the tire, which necessitated his purchasing a new one. I would appreciate it if you would place this matter in line for payment. Very truly yours, James T.Spillane." Of the City of VoctLester Gentlemen% In accordance with your request that this office make a report to you regarding the 1937 assessment on personal property of Mrs. T. E. Barber, we beg to advise that this assessment was rechecked by two of our deputies and the total reduced from $1872.00 to $1588.00. We are enclosing a copy of our checking list to show you how we arrive at our assessment and we believe it to be fair. e 1 L 5 71.2 Mr. Barber, in addition to an assessment on personal household furniture also has. an assessment on personal property used in three businesses, namely; Apartments, furnished rooms and dealing in and re- conditioning antique furniture. The comparisons which he makes with other taxpayers are not justified because the assessments which he refers to are on household furniture only. You will note on the back of Mr. Barber's listing'sheets that he claims to 4ave one hundred and fifty.pigces of Old Antique Furniture which our deputies did not assess. Alderman Fryer introduced a resolution ordering plans for a trunk line sanitary sewer in First Street Northwest from Thirteenth Avenue Northwest to Sixteenth Avenue Northwest, which was read. Upon motion by Richman second by Moody,that the said resolution be adopted as read, and all voting in favor thereof, President Liddle declared the said resolution duly passed and adopted. Alderman Lemmon introduced a resolution ordering sidewalks constructed on Seventh Avenue Southeast from Twelfth Street Southeast to Thirteenib Street Southeast, and in front of Lots 14,15, and 16, Block 16, Northern Addition, which was read. Upon motion by Amundsen second by Richman, that the said resolution Ve adopted as read, and all voting in favor the;eof, President Liddle declared the said resolution duly passed 'and adopted. Alderman Lemmon introduced a resolution ordering a hearing on the paving of Broadway Street North from the south rail of the Chicago & Northwestern Railway Company to the south line of Fourth Street Northeast and Northwest, said hearing to be held at 7:30 o'clock P:M., on June 20th, 1938, which'was read. Upon motion by Lemmon second by Moody,that the said resolution be adopted gs read, and all voting in favor thereof, President Liddle declared the said resolution duly passed and adopted. Alderman Fryer introduced a resolution appropriating $493.2)0 from the Street and Alley Fund and ordering payment made to Seth Morse for gravel and sand furnished during MWy919389which was read. Upon motion by Moody second by Amundsen,that the said resolution be adopted as read, and all voting in favor thereof, President Liddle declared the said resolution duly passed and adopted.
